The Whole World is Watching: Foreign Policy and the U.S. Presidential Election

September 13, 2016 at 12:30 am - 1:20 pm

With the entire world waiting for the American people to pick their next chief executive, the stakes are high. The candidates for President of the United States have presented what seems like contrasting visions for America’s role in the world. But is U.S. foreign policy really so malleable that one single person can dramatically change course, even if President?

Join the Dean Rusk International Law Center for Ambassador Derek Shearer’s talk on 2016 presidential elections and what is at stake from a foreign policy perspective. Lunch will be served.

Ambassador Derek Shearer is the Stuart Chevalier Professor of Diplomacy and World Affairs and heads the McKinnon Center for Global Affairs at Occidental College. He served in the Clinton Administration in the Commerce Department and then as Ambassador to Finland. He is the author of several books, and his articles have appeared in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and International Herald Tribune.

This event is co-sponsored by the University of Georgia School of International & Public Affairs (SPIA) and the World Affairs Council of Atlanta.
