SUMMARY:Luncheon Honoring the 50 Most Influential Latinos in Georgia
DESCRIPTION:To recognize the accomplishments of these gifted leaders\, the Georgia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce presents the first annual “50 Most Influential Latinos in Georgia.” The nominations of the men and women selected for this prestigious honor have gone through a rigorous process to evaluate contributions they have made. Weighing heavily on the final selection was the degree of influence each person exhibited in their role as a representative of the Latino community. It is one thing to be successful but quite another to ensure others are successful as well. For that positive influence\, the GHCC is thankful and is delighted to recognize the “50 Most Influential Latinos in Georgia” for 2018. Come celebrate  the month of Hispanic Heritage recognizing Latinos who are examples for our community.

SUMMARY:Year of Morocco: The Case of the Ben M'Sik Community Museum
DESCRIPTION:Partnering With a Moroccan University: The Case of the Ben M’Sik Community Museum \nThe Ben M’sik Community Museum (BMCM) is a burgeoning museum housed at Faculty of Letters and Humanities\, Ben M’sik\, Casablanca\, Morocco\, located at the heart of the diverse Ben M’sik neighborhood of Casablanca. The decision to create the Ben M’sik Community Museum\, the first of its kind in Morocco\, is an indication of its commitment to establish deeper contacts with the community it serves. The BMCM’s mission “to preserve memory by interpreting\, exhibiting\, and promoting the stories of the diverse populations of the neighborhood and its region” supports the University’s own mission of increasing the number of interactions with partners belonging to its socio-economic environment. \nOf the less than 20 museums in Morocco\, the BMCM is one of two located in Casablanca. The BMCM is unique in its focus as a center of community engagement. Unlike traditional museums that primarily collect and display antiquities and great works of art\, the BMCM specifically seeks to document the day-to-day lives of local residents. \nFeaturing: Dr. Catherine Lewis\, Assistant Vice President for Museums\, Archives and Rare Books\, KSU

SUMMARY:Ahiska Turks Lecture ft. Sırrı Hakan Kırımlı of Bilkent University
DESCRIPTION:Around 200 families of Meskhetian Turks make up a small but unique portion of the residents of Atlanta\, Georgia. Being uprooted in 1944 from their homeland (the Meskheti region of the then Soviet Union) about 115\,000 Meskhetian Turks were forced to live in exile for decades within different parts of the Soviet Union until its collapse in 1989. Many of them are still stateless\, leaving them without a home country that offers them citizenship or a passport for travel. Many of them are refugees in various corners of the world. \nThis lecture will give some insight about the dramatic story of these people. All are welcome; no RSVP required. Contact agsc@iac.gatech.edu for more information. \nCo-sponsored by the Atlanta Global Studies Center (AGSC)\, a consortium of Georgia Institute ofTechnology and Georgia State University\, funded in part by a US Department of Education Title VI National Resource Center grant. Also co-sponsored by the Global Studies Institute\, the Asian Studies Center\, and the Office of International Initiatives at Georgia State University. In collaboration with the Consul General of Turkey in Miami and the Ahiska Turkish American Council.

SUMMARY:Child Soldiers: New ISIS Recruits?
DESCRIPTION:Terrorists are constantly raising the stakes. \nEvery year\, terrorist groups recruit and radicalize more and more children. These children are used as tools to carry out their activities & violence. Terrorist groups argue that children possess innovation\, creativity and an innocence that adults often lack.  \nAuthor of the book Small Arms: Children and Terrorism\, Dr. Mia Bloom will answer questions about child recruitment strategies and tactics for child terrorists\, and the grim ways in which extremist groups use these small soldiers. Members only. Complimentary for Members. \nWant to register? E-mail Emily at erives2@gsu.edu or become a member!

SUMMARY:Fourth Annual Maternity Fundraiser
DESCRIPTION:In the last three years\, GWAG has successfully raised money to support and transform maternity wards across Ghana. The donated supplies have provided the hospital staff with the tools needed to provide decent care to patients and increased access to maternity care for many women in the communities they serve. GWAG’s third shipment recently arrived at the port in Ghana and has since been cleared by Rotary club and GWAG members living in Ghana. See some pictures here: \nAs an association\, we have made a lot of progress in fulfilling our desire to “better the maternity experience in Ghana\, one ward at a time”. However\, there is still a lot of work to do. So as they continue with their efforts to provide maternity ward supplies and create a system of sustainability\, they ask that you continue to support us by helping us reach our fundraising goal of $25\,000 for our 2019 project.

SUMMARY:Society. The Last Chance.
DESCRIPTION:“THE UNIVERSAL GRAIN. Game of Professionals. Society. The Last Chance” \nJoin together with a hundred thousand plus people from around the world as we discuss the most important questions for society today. This historic event is initiated by people themselves with the goal to raise vital questions that concern topics of peace\, humanness\, and empathy. They will touch on the question as to why we have such world problems as wars\, international conflicts\, racial and religious discrimination\, misinterpretation of information by mass media\, consumer oriented society\, etc. This is a pivotal opportunity on such a significant scale for our human family to look into the eyes of each other and unite\, not only in words\, but in deeds. \n“THE UNIVERSAL GRAIN” is a project aimed towards uniting people on the basis of spiritual values and common grains of knowledge that exist in all religions and cultures. By studying the sacred texts of all existing religions and cultures\, we show that all world teachings are based on the same grains of truth; our cultures and religions speak and teach about the same truths and knowledge. This realization gives people an understanding that we are indeed all United!
