SUMMARY:Society. The Last Chance.
DESCRIPTION:“THE UNIVERSAL GRAIN. Game of Professionals. Society. The Last Chance” \nJoin together with a hundred thousand plus people from around the world as we discuss the most important questions for society today. This historic event is initiated by people themselves with the goal to raise vital questions that concern topics of peace\, humanness\, and empathy. They will touch on the question as to why we have such world problems as wars\, international conflicts\, racial and religious discrimination\, misinterpretation of information by mass media\, consumer oriented society\, etc. This is a pivotal opportunity on such a significant scale for our human family to look into the eyes of each other and unite\, not only in words\, but in deeds. \n“THE UNIVERSAL GRAIN” is a project aimed towards uniting people on the basis of spiritual values and common grains of knowledge that exist in all religions and cultures. By studying the sacred texts of all existing religions and cultures\, we show that all world teachings are based on the same grains of truth; our cultures and religions speak and teach about the same truths and knowledge. This realization gives people an understanding that we are indeed all United!

SUMMARY:From Polar Bears to Peaches: 50th Anniversary of Earth Day
DESCRIPTION:The North Pole has ice all year round as it stands\, but as global temperatures rise\, ice levels could dissipate in the summer months. Increased melting of ice sheets and losses of seasonal sea ice are both commonly reported consequences of climate change that can impact polar marine ecosystems globally.\n\nWhat about Georgia? We’ve had hurricanes\, tornadoes\, and ice storms just these past two years. How does the loss of polar ice affect both rural and urban communities in our state?\n\nJoin for a conversation with Dr. Patricia Yager who is a Professor of Marine Science at the University of Georgia. Her interdisciplinary research combines oceanography\, marine ecology\, and biogeochemistry\, and concentrates on the interactions between climate and marine ecosystems.\n\nThis program is presented by the Council Members Forum Steering Committee and the Young Leaders Executive Board\n\nAs a courtesy to the community\, this Members Forum program is OPEN TO ALL.

SUMMARY:Virtual Author Talk: 'Corazón de Dixie: Mexicanos in the U.S. South Since 1910'
DESCRIPTION:When Latino migration to the U.S. South became increasingly visible in the 1990s\, observers and advocates grasped for ways to analyze “new” racial dramas in the absence of historical reference points. However\, as this book is the first to comprehensively document\, Mexicans and Mexican Americans have a long history of migration to the U.S. South. Corazon de Dixie recounts the untold histories of Mexicanos’ migrations to New Orleans\, Mississippi\, Arkansas\, Georgia\, and North Carolina as far back as 1910. It follows Mexicanos into the heart of Dixie\, where they navigated the Jim Crow system\, cultivated community in the cotton fields\, purposefully appealed for help to the Mexican government\, shaped the southern conservative imagination in the wake of the civil rights movement\, and embraced their own version of suburban living at the turn of the twenty-first century. \nRooted in U.S. and Mexican archival research\, oral history interviews\, and family photographs\, Corazón de Dixie unearths not just the facts of Mexicanos’ long-standing presence in the U.S. South but also their own expectations\, strategies\, and dreams. \nJulie M. Weise is an Assistant Professor of History at the University of Oregon. She received her Ph.D. in U.S. and Latin American history in 2009. From 2001-2\, she worked in the administration of Mexico’s President Vicente Fox as a speechwriter and researcher for the cabinet-level Office of the President for Mexicans Living Abroad. She has also worked as a translator\, paralegal\, project manager\, and policy researcher at immigration-related agencies in New Haven and Los Angeles. \nJavier Díaz de León serves as Consul General of Mexico in Atlanta. Diaz is a member of the Mexican Foreign Service since 1991 and holds the rank of Ambassador since April 28th\, 2017. During his diplomatic career he has held various positions: Deputy Consul General in San Diego; Deputy Consul General in New York\, Head of the Office for Migration and Hispanic Affairs at the Embassy of Mexico in the United States\, and Executive Director of the Institute for Mexicans Abroad of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Mexico City. In May 2016\, he was appointed as Consul General of Mexico in Atlanta\, Georgia\, serving in this position since June 18th\, 2016. The Consulate General of Mexico in Atlanta oversees the states of Georgia\, Alabama\, and most of Tennessee.
