SUMMARY:Fentanyl: Fighting the Mass Poisoning of America and the Cartel Behind It
DESCRIPTION:The Sam Nunn School of International Affairs at Georgia Tech invites you to join the Honorable John Tien\, former deputy secretary of Homeland Security and a Nunn School Distinguished Professor of the Practice\, and Jake Braun\, Tien’s former Senior Counselor for Policy and former Acting Principal Deputy National Cyber Director\, for a fireside chat. They will discuss Braun’s newest book\, which details the development of the first-ever U.S. strategy to dismantle the Sinaloa Cartel and its network of Chinese chemical suppliers. \n\n\n\nIn Fentanyl: Fighting the Mass Poisoning of America and the Cartel Behind It (Bloomsbury Academic 2025)\, Braun reveals the inside story of how the U.S. built a secret campaign to fight the deadliest crisis in modern history. As reported in the journal Science\, the subsequent drop in fentanyl-related incidents was largely due to these enforcement efforts. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegister\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDownload flyer

SUMMARY:Ambassador Discussion -- Estonia: Forging a Digital Society
DESCRIPTION:Imagine life where the phrase “government bureaucracy” doesn’t make you wince. That life exists in Estonia where 99 percent of public services are available online 24 hours a day. Nearly a third of Estonians vote via the internet. They file their taxes online in under five minutes. Parents of newborns access benefits almost automatically. Estonians are living in the world’s first digital society.\n\nWhen Estonia gained independence from the Soviet Union in 1991\, its technological resources were obsolete. Estonian leaders viewed this as an extraordinary opportunity to catch up with the West. Today\, Estonia is home to more tech unicorns than any other small country globally\, thanks to digital immigration and friendly tax rates. (Fun fact: Skype was founded in Estonia in 2003!)\n\nThe World Affairs Council of Atlanta will dive into the details with the Ambassador of Estonia to the United States\, Kristjan Prikk. Join the council at the Smith Gambrell Russell Law Firm for breakfast on Friday\, March 4\, 2022\, at 8 AM ET. Ambassador Prikk will share insights and answer our questions on Estonia‘s state of affairs\, including NATO\, Ukraine-Russia tensions\, the strengths and risks of its digital society\, and more.\n\nSpots are limited. Register today to secure your spot!\n\nThis program is sponsored by the Honorary Consulate of Estonia in Georgia.

SUMMARY:Spies\, Lies and Algorithms: Author Talk With Amy Zegart
DESCRIPTION:“Today we face a critical juncture for American spy agencies\, as big as 9/11 — only most people don’t know it\,” says Amy B. Zegart\, one of the country’s leading experts on intelligence. “New dangers come from tech\, not terrorists. Emerging technologies like AI and social media are weakening the strong and empowering the weak\, fundamentally changing dynamics of international conflict. To be blunt: The U.S. is losing its intelligence advantage.”\n\nJoin the World Affairs Council of Atlanta  Thursday\, February 17 at noon ET as it hosts Amy B. Zegart — a senior fellow at the Hoover Institute\, former national security analyst (for MSNBC\, CNN\, Fox News\, and NPR)\, and professor at Stanford University. Dr. Zegart will share insights and answer questions about America’s evolving intelligence threats\, examining Chinese spying\, the lack of intelligence expertise in Congress\, cyber threats\, and more.\n\nYou can purchase her book\, “Spies\, Lies\, and Algorithms: The History and Future of American Intelligence\,” HERE.

SUMMARY:CYBER 2.0 4th Hacking Challenge
DESCRIPTION:The big hacker challenge promises a $ 100\,000 prize for anyone who manages to hack its system. \nEvery cyber company in the world claims that its system is the best. How many are willing to put their claim to the test of all the hackers in the world? \nCyber 2.0 has been doing this for four years in a row. \nThe tested scenario is defined as any information security manager’s nightmare in an organization: a hacker breaches the security of the organization\, disables all existing protection systems\, has a User\, Admin\, Password\, and can now do whatever he pleases in the organization. \nDuring the challenge\, Cyber 2.0 deploys a network of a few computers\, simulating a company’s network. Every hacker gets access to this network\, just as if he were part of the organization. He does not need to hack the firewall or disable antiviruses. As for the hacker\, he is already within the organization. The only difference between him and the network computers is that the company’s software is not installed on his computer. According to the company\, no such hacker will be able to communicate with the other computers on the network. \nIn the company’s previous challenges\, all hackers failed in their attempt to hack the system.\nIn 2018\, the challenge took place in Israel. It was attended by 350 hackers\, including soldiers from elite units\, who tried for 6 hours\, and there were over a million attacks simultaneously to breach the system.\nIn 2019\, the challenge took place in the US. All the American hackers failed in their attempts.\nSince 2020\, the challenge has been open to hackers from all over the world. Over 3\,500 hackers\, from 16 different countries have tried to attack this system simultaneously. As mentioned\, they all failed. \nAccording to Cyber 2.0\, no penetration test performed by any company will come close to such a scope of simultaneous attacks. \nThe fourth challenge\, which will take place on April 21\, is aimed at the European market\, along with our partners Syntyche and Integrity consulting the challenge will be open to all hackers in the world. \nIt was reported that in the US hacker challenge\, a team of expert hackers arrived\, and demonstrated to all those who were present how to break into a Tesla car. At the end of their successful hack\, they stated that nothing would stop them from hacking the Cyber 2.0 system. However\, they failed and said: “We felt like people shooting Nerf darts at a castle wall.”
