SUMMARY:MADAME Film Screening
DESCRIPTION:Join Out on Film and the Consulate General of Switzerland in Atlanta for a Pride month celebration. All ticket holders are invited to a special reception at Apres Diem at 6 pm. \nJoin them in celebrating Pride Month with the screening of MADAME by Stéphane Riethauser! Follow the story of a double self-portrait in which a 90-year-old grandmother and her homosexual grandson confide in each other. With sincerity and humour\, the film deconstructs gender stereotypes in depth and with subversive power\, and traces a family saga from bourgeois society with enchanting archive footage. The film will be shown in French with English subtitles and is part of a collaboration between the Consulate General of Switzerland in Atlanta and Out On Film. Make sure to arrive at 6 PM for a delicious cocktail reception! \nLearn more about the film:\nMADAME takes us on an intimate journey where Caroline\, a flamboyant 90-year-old grandmother and her filmmaker grandson Stéphane explore the development and transmission of gender identity in a patriarchal environment. Promised to a domestic life in the 1920s\, Caroline manages to free herself from the clutches of a forced marriage and becomes a successful businesswoman\, defying the social rules of her time. In parallel\, Stéphane struggles to play the role everyone expects in his Swiss bourgeois family\, until the day he comes out of the closet and sets off on a crusade against homophobia and sexism. A family saga based on private archive footage\, MADAME offers a dialog between this extravagant matriarch and her gay grandson\, challenging the taboos of gender and sexuality.

SUMMARY:Steffen Thomas: Rock & Chisel Film Premiere on Georgia Public Broadcasting
DESCRIPTION:Steffen Thomas Museum of Art is proud to announce the live airing of the film\, Steffen Thomas: Rock & Chisel\, February 13th at 10:00 p.m. on Georgia Public Broadcasting.\nThe film features never-before-seen archival footage of German-American artist Steffen Thomas at work and at play. The Steffen Thomas Museum of Art has shared their vast archive with Milk Crate Films’ director\, Jesse Stephen Freeman\, who has been working on the project for four years. The result is a fascinating dive into the life of this talented\, complicated artist. \nSee the home Thomas built stone-by-stone\, the monumental public pieces around the country\, the colorful mosaics and oil paintings\, and the legendary Monument to the Brotherhood of Mankind\, a massive work of art that required visitors to enter into a sunken sanctuary to experience. It was inside this work that Thomas carved his credo\, “This world is too small for less than brotherhood\, too dangerous for less than truth.” \nThe original score for Steffen Thomas: Rock & Chisel is composed by David Kirkland Garner and performed by Phillip Bush (piano) and Claire Bryant (cello). Michael Bruno is the Director of Photography and the film was edited by Will Eccleston for Kinetiscape Films. It’s directed by Jesse Stephen Freeman for Milk Crate Films. \nSee film trailer here. \nSee Georgia Public Broadcasting airing schedule here.

SUMMARY:FILM: Let Us Die
DESCRIPTION:On the eve of the anniversary of the Russian invasion in Ukraine\, join Goethe-Zentrum Atlanta for the exclusive screening of “Let us Die”. \nAs a young man in the late 1980s\, Tim Mallad\, purchased an old\, beaten-up desk in Dallas. Inside\, he found an old British Passport\, black and white photographs\, a letter from Tel Aviv\, international air mail from the 1950s\, and a collection of fragile letters that were written in German at the end of World War II. This finding is the unlikely beginning of a story that ultimately led into the darkness of war crimes in the city of Neustrelitz at the time of Germany’s liberation from the Nazi regime – and that led Frank Pringham\, great grandnephew of Thomas Mann\, into a chapter of his family history previously unknown. \nGeothe-Zentrum welcomes Mr. Frank Pringham to join for the showing of the documentary\, inaugurating the new screening equipment at the new center. \nGeneral Public: $10 per person\nMembers: FREE
