SUMMARY:Public Health Logistics and Supply Chain Management in the COVID-19 Era and Beyond
DESCRIPTION:#FranceAtlanta2021 | Public Health Logistics and Supply Chain Management in the COVID-19 Era and Beyond \nThe ongoing pandemic is demonstrating the importance of supply chains and logistics in the distribution of healthcare resources. The lack of resilience and agility of these systems has contributed to limited and unbalanced availability of critical resources\, leading to the shortage and wastage of resources in different parts of the world. The 2021 Humanitarian Forum will focus on such disparities as well as policies and operational solutions to reduce them. \nThis event is co-organized by the Consulate General of France in Atlanta\, the Center for Humanitarian Emergencies and the Office for Global Strategy and Initiatives at Emory University\, and the School of Industrial and Systems Engineering and the Center for Health and Humanitarian Systems at Georgia Tech.

SUMMARY:Nigeria Update: Human Rights & Freedom of Speech Under Siege
DESCRIPTION:The Nigerian government’s recent ban on Twitter is the latest infringement on citizens’ ability to freely express dissent. The announcement also comes in the wake of citizen protests against excessive force by the police against the Nigerian people\, including violence perpetrated by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS). \nAt the same time\, insecurity persists as attacks by Boko Haram insurgents continue to terrorize parts of the country. In spite of the onslaught\, Nigerian civil society remains vibrant and continues its attempts to hold the government accountable. \nWhat can human rights organizations and the international community do to defend human rights in Nigeria? What is the role of civil society to protect freedoms of speech and expression in the country? \nJoin the World Affairs Council of Atlanta in a discussion about Nigeria with Kehinde Togun\, Senior Director for Policy and Government Relations at Humanity United. Mr. Togun has led global democracy and governance programs in the Middle East and Sub-Saharan Africa for much of the last 15 years. He will give us an update on the current situation in Nigeria and recent attacks on human rights\, civil liberties\, and free speech. \nOpen & Complimentary to all.

SUMMARY:Celebrate Black History Month-Watch and Discuss: Shared Legacies
DESCRIPTION:The Consulate General of Israel to the Southeast U.S. is partnering with the Martin Luther Jr. International Chapel at Morehouse College\, Spill the Honey Foundation\, and the Consulate General of Israel in Los Angeles to celebrate Black History Month. \nTheir event will take place on Thursday\, February 25\, 2021 at 7:00 PM ET/6:00 PM CT for an evening dialogue about the rich history and promising future of Black-Jewish relations. This virtual event is dedicated to the life and legacy of Cicely Tyson (1924 – 2021) and Larry King (1933 – 2021). \nParticipants include Dr. Shari Rogers\, film director and producer; K.J. Matthews\, award-winning entertainment journalist; and Ori Naftaly\, Israeli-born guitarist\, composer\, and music producer. \nParticipants will watch the film “Shared Legacies: The African American-Jewish Civil Rights Alliance” and engage in an evening dialogue about the rich history and promising future of Black-Jewish relations. This virtual event is dedicated to the life and legacy of Cicely Tyson (1924 – 2021) and Larry King (1933 – 2021). \nUpon registering\, you will receive a custom code to view the film. The code will expire at 7:00 PM ET/4:00 PM PT on February 25\, 2021.\nAbout the Film: \nTrailer available here.  \nThe crucial historical lessons of Black-Jewish cooperation are revisited and revived in this utterly fascinating\, urgent call to action. \nThe modern alliance between African-Americans and Jewish Americans dates to the NAACP founding in 1909. Since then\, both groups have endured segregation and racism\, from the codified bigotry of southern Jim Crow laws\, to blatant bias in real estate\, employment\, higher education and politics. \nCommon cause was found in the turbulent ‘60s Civil Rights era\, as Jewish leaders backed Dr. King’s efforts at racial equality and harmony. Yet\, the relationship has frayed in recent years\, as a once-mighty bond of support and respect has seemingly faded\, been forgotten or ignored. \nPivotal events come alive through a treasure trove of archival materials\, narrated by eyewitnesses\, activists\, Holocaust survivors\, and leaders of the movement\, including prominent Atlantans such as Congressman John Lewis\, Amb. Andrew Young\, Rabbi Alvin Sugarman\, Rabbi Peter S. Berg\, Oscar-winning actor Louis Gossett Jr.\, members of the King family\, and many others. \nWith divisive seeds of hate taking root anew in the American landscape\, a new generation also affirms their pledge to actively promote the values of social justice. This potent\, inspiring story of unity\, empathy and partnership validates the ubiquity of the human experience\, and how freedom and equality for all can be achieved only when people come together. \n**Running time-95 minutes
