SUMMARY:Ambassador Briefing: Pakistan -- Reaching for Reform
DESCRIPTION:Join Global Atlanta and Miller & Martin for a timely discussion with Rizwan Saeed Sheikh\, Pakistan’s ambassador to the United States since August 2024\, on investment opportunities as the country of 235 million people reaches for reform. \n\n\n\nDuring his first official visit to Atlanta to meet community leaders and students\, Mr. Saeed will outline the government’s efforts to boost financial inclusion and drive growth through its Uraan Pakistan plan\, which aims to seed 6 percent growth by 2028\, led by export-oriented sectors and in collaboration with the World Bank and other multilateral institutions\, as outlined by the finance minister at the recent World Economic Forum. \n\n\n\nEven amid stalled talks between the government and opposition\, Mr. Saeed will showcase how sectors like energy\, infrastructure\, technology\, mining\, and agriculture offer substantial growth potential\, and how foreign investors from some of the world’s most dynamic economies are seizing opportunities in this key South Asian market. \n\n\n\nViewing Atlanta as a hub for higher education\, he will also explore deeper university collaborations and opportunities for the mutual recognition of degrees and credentials to drive further exchange. A fintech hub\, Atlanta could also play a role in the country’s nascent digitization efforts\, bringing individuals and small businesses into the formal economy and reducing the unbanked population. \n\n\n\nHeld over lunch\, the conversation will also address how Pakistan will work with the new U.S. administration\, manage regional tensions and where it sits in a world increasingly marked by U.S.-China rivalry. \n\n\n\nSee a summary of our last Pakistan briefing: Georgia Now on Pakistan’s Map\, Ambassador Says \n\n\n\nFeatured Speaker\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAmbassador Rizwan Saeed Sheikh\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\nSponsored & Hosted by: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSponsored by:

SUMMARY:2025 Dunwoody Virtual Great Decisions Lecture Series – U.S. Changing Leadership of the World Economy
DESCRIPTION:The annual 2025 Dunwoody Great Decisions Foreign Policy Lecture Series will take place via Zoom every Thursday evening from February 6 – March 27\, 2025 at 7:00 PM. There is a fee to register for the virtual lecture series\, and registration is required to receive the event link. \n\n\n\nTopic: U.S. Changing Leadership of the World Economy \n\n\n\nUnder President Biden\, the U.S. has advanced new ideas about trade\, technology\, industrial policy\, competition with China\, and the organization of the world economy. For most of the postwar era\, the U.S. has tied its global leadership to cooperative agendas aimed at creating a more open-world trading system\, but that has apparently come to an end. What are America’s options and opportunities as a leader of the world economy? How will America’s “foreign policy for the middle class” and strategic competition with China impact its leadership role? How can the postwar rules and institutions of the world economy be made safe for economic nationalism and great power competition? \n\n\n\nSpeaker: Dr. Stephen Collins\, Professor of Political Science and International Affairs\, Kennesaw State University (KSU) \n\n\n\nPlease note\, topics and speakers are subject to change dates. \n\n\n\nGreat Decisions\, presented by the Foreign Policy Association (FPA)\, highlights the most thought-provoking foreign policy challenges facing Americans each year. GCIV is the statewide coordinator for the nonpartisan program. To view the other 2025 topics or learn more about Great Decisions\,  \n\n\n\nvisit Gciv.org/programs/gd. \n\n\n\nThe Georgia Council for International Vistiors (GCIV) implements professional international exchange programs on behalf of the U.S. Department of State and other federal agencies. SUMMARY:Cocktails with A Consul: Navigating the New U.S. Relationship with Canada & Mexico
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an intimate conversation with two distinguished diplomats discussing the U.S. relationship with its two largest trading partners\, Canada and Mexico. The panel will explore how Canada and Mexico are preparing for potential 25% tariffs and the future of the US-Mexico-Canada relationship.Cocktails with A Consul: Navigating the New U.S. Relationship with Canada & Mexico \n\n\n\nAbout the event\n\n\n\nWith “tariffs” and “trade” dominating the headlines in 2025\, Americans are revisiting their high school economics lessons to understand the implications. The U.S. threat to impose high tariffs on its largest trading partners could significantly impact Georgia’s economy\, which recorded $25 billion in trade with Mexico and $13.9 billion with Canada in 2024. Key products exchanged between Georgia\, Canada\, and Mexico include civilian aircraft and parts\, motor vehicles\, data processing machines\, telephone sets\, and medical devices. However\, the flow of immigration and fentanyl between these countries has sparked difficult discussions\, echoing American poet Robert Frost’s assertion that “good fences make good neighbors.” \n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegister\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLearn more
