SUMMARY:Expat Expectations: Transitioning Talent Across Blurred Borders
DESCRIPTION:As hybrid models blur the lines between physical and virtual work\, companies are shrinking their office footprints and reconsidering relocations. The trend presents new challenges for talent management\, but also opportunities to dip into labor pools no longer hindered by geography. Tradeoffs are inevitable.\n\nInternational firms breaking into the U.S. market through Atlanta face an even more complex set of considerations\, such as how to bring in executives to set up operations\, deal with disparate hiring rules and customize products or services for a new market.\n\nFor relocated executives and international hires\, all this comes on top of the incumbent logistical and cultural challenges of settling into a new city and country — whether getting a driver’s license\, financing a home or finding a school for the kids.\n\nOn June 14\, Global Atlanta will bring together a slate of experts to provide the latest insights on running a global team from our global city\, interspersed with personal stories from expatriates who have made the jump to Atlanta. The resulting discussion will help you manage expat expectations as you onboard and integrate new team members across borders.\nSpeakers:  \n\n\n Michael Manely\, International Family Law Attorney\, The Manely Firm\, P.C.\n Charles Kuck\, Managing Partner\, Kuck Baxter Immigration\n Marsha Maxwell\, Head of Technology and Innovation\, Atlanta International School\n Cheryl Leydon\, Tax Director\, Global Mobility Services\, Aprio\n Paula Henao\, Realtor\, Atlanta Fine Homes & Sotheby’s International Realty\n Christian Höeferle\, President & CEO\, The Culture Mastery\n\nSectors covered:  \n\n\n Family law\n Immigration\n Education\n Tax\n Real Estate\n Banking\n Culture\n\nWho should come: \n\n Leaders of international subsidiaries in tech or beyond\n HR managers for large ATL companies with global operations\n Startups looking to go global or recruit internationally\n Service providers seeking better insight into their clients’ challenges\n Economic development leaders looking to improve their community’s outreach around the world\n\nSpeaker Bios\n\nMichael Manely has practiced divorce and family law for more than 30 years and has prevailed in thousands of family law cases. Angela’s career started in the private sector leading business development for organizations like Viacom and Nokia. While working internationally\, she began to wonder: if multinational companies can deliver their products consistently and with quality at scale\, what would it take to deliver social interventions like education and health in a similar manner? \nShe began to tackle this question by founding Global Language Project\, a social venture that aimed to transform how we prepare students with skills to succeed in a global economy and workforce. Angela completed a Doctoral degree at Harvard University\, where her focus was on this question\, along with the role of scale and strategic capital deployment and philanthropy in systems change initiatives. \nAngela’s work with New Profit allows her to marry her research interests with practice. She currently leads New Profit’s $15M Future of Work global fund to invest in entrepreneurs and companies developing innovative technical solutions to upskill low-income and entry-level workers at scale. Angela recently launched a $6 million Future of Work Grand Challenge\, powered by XPRIZE and MIT Solve\, to rapidly reskill 25\,000 displaced workers into living-wage jobs in the next 24 months. \nHer work and writing has been featured in CNN\, Huffington Post\, Chicago Tribune\, Stanford Social Innovation Review and Harvard Business Review. You can read her thoughts on the intersection of race and the Future of Work on Medium and follow her on Twitter at @angjack.
