SUMMARY:Upcoming Energy Projects in the Central America
DESCRIPTION:Central America countries are expected to issue several billion dollars in tenders in the energy sector\, offering many attractive opportunities for U.S. companies. \n\nSolar Energy is a growing area in most countries.\nBids in renewable energy projects are more common\, but still there is the need to buy equipment for emergency energy generation even at a residential level.\nThe US Commercial Service has an Energy POC in every Embassy that can help you find out about the latest opportunities in each country.\n\nCentral America countries are widely investing in different energy projects. Most of the countries offer several advantages to U.S. companies: \n\nProximity.\nAffinity and preference for U.S. brands and technology.\nQuality is a differentiator from less expensive product opportunities from Asia.\n\nRenewable energy is both a mature market as well as emerging sector in Central America depending on the country. The only common ground on all markets is the use of solar energy as a way to generate needed grid power\, lower the usage peaks or lower the energy bill for companies. \nInvestment opportunities exist for developing small hydropower dams\, solar photovoltaic and wind systems as well. \nCentral America may seem to be a small market\, when compared to other large countries\, but in reality Central America historically has purchased more from the USA than Russia and Indonesia combined. \nBiding for projects in similar time zones with friendly attitudes towards Americans\, is indeed a good way to step outside the comfort zone of selling domestic and going further to do business.

SUMMARY:Navigating a New Era: Philippines-U.S. Partnership in the Post-COVID World
DESCRIPTION:  \nA Conversation with Ambassador Jose Manuel Romualdez. \n\nThe Philippines has enacted one of the world’s strictest lockdowns to fight COVID-19\, dampening growth in a dynamic economy of 100 million people that has seen services and e-commerce take off but has lagged its neighbors as a manufacturing source and tourism hub. \nThe uncertainty has led the country to hone its complex position in Southeast Asia and the world. Under President Rodrigo Duterte\, the Philippines has steadily warmed to China even as it challenges the latter’s territorial claims in the South China Sea. Meanwhile\, plans to terminate the presence of U.S. troops in the country have been delayed during the pandemic\, offering hope for a recalibration of the relationship. \nJoin Global Atlanta\, in partnership with the Atlanta Council on International Relations\, for an exclusive conversation with Jose Manuel Romualdez\, Ambassador of the Philippines to the United States\, to discuss the Philippines’ response to COVID-19\, its plans win over foreign investors and efforts to navigate a new era of Pacific partnerships during a time of global turmoil. \nIn partnership with Atlanta Council on International Relations. \n \nAbout H. E. Jose Manuel G. Romualdez\nAmbassador of the Republic of the Philippines to the United States of America \nJose Manuel “Babe” del Gallego Romualdez was appointed Ambassador of the Republic of the Philippines to the United States of America in July 2017 by President Rodrigo Roa Duterte. Additionally\, as the head of the Philippine Embassy in Washington\, D.C.\, Ambassador Romualdez is concurrently the Philippines’ emissary to the Commonwealth of Jamaica\, Republic of Haiti; Republic of Trinidad and Tobago; Antigua and Barbuda; Bahamas; Barbados; Dominica; Saint Kitts and Nevis; Saint Vincent and the Grenadines; and Saint Lucia. \nPrior to his appointment\, Ambassador Romualdez was designated as a special envoy of the Philippine President to the United States. He also served as a member of several Philippine business delegations visiting the United States\, China\, Japan and New Zealand from 1989 to 2012. \nAmbassador Romualdez has extensive experience as a media practitioner and business executive. He used to be the Chief Executive Officer of Stargate Media Corporation and Publisher of People Asia Magazine (The Philippine Star affiliate). He was president of the Manila Overseas Press Club and vice-president of Rotary Club of Manila. \nAmbassador Romualdez writes columns for The Philippine Star. All his columns have a wide following of readers both in the Philippines and abroad. \nBorn and raised in Manila\, Ambassador Romualdez received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from De La Salle College in 1970. \nMeet the host: Martine Tartour-Levi\n\nMartine Tartour Levi is an award-winning French journalist who lives in Atlanta with her husband\, Yoel Levi.  She writes about art\, culture\, travel\, and current events for the Jewish Times.
