SUMMARY:U.S. – Mexico Energy Trade
DESCRIPTION:U.S. and Mexico relations are clearly strained. Blame it on the controversial wall Trump wants to build and his criticism of NAFTA\, but there is a lot more at stake for these neighbors’ in their agendas for economic growth: energy. The council is excited to present “U.S.-Mexico Energy Trade\,” a breakfast discussion on the challenges facing both countries in the midst of an evolving energy market and a dynamic time for trade. Energy trade issues between these two neighbors are not making the headlines as they should. This morning discussion will examine the future of renewable energy sources and the future of U.S.-Mexico energy trade in the midst of growing tension between the two states\, as well as the role that Georgia plays in this historic and critical partnership that is at risk.

SUMMARY:Metro Export Challenge Success Stories and Info Session With Red Brick Brewing
DESCRIPTION:Join metro Atlanta business and trade leaders to hear how your company can win up to $5\,000 toward boosting its global sales strategy. In a later pitch session\, first-round winners will vie for additional grants of $20\,000\, $10\,000 and $5\,000. \nDuring this networking soiree and info session at Atlanta’s Red Brick Brewing\, you’ll hear from a few of the 38 companies that last year took home a combined $225\,000 in grants as part of the Atlanta Metro Export Challenge — and how you can follow in their footsteps. \nOur host\, Red Brick Brewing\, used the money to build ties with South Korea\, where it now has a distributor selling a customized brew suited to local palates. Other companies used the cash to attend trade shows\, make overseas client visits or internationalize their websites. \nSupported by Chase and UPS\, the Atlanta Metro Export Challenge (Atlanta MEC) is designed to help local companies develop proactive international business sales plans and craft strategies to act on them. \nHere’s how it will work this year: \n During round one\, 25 businesses will receive reimbursement grants of up to $5\,000 that may be applied to expenses relating to building their export capacity and activities. Winners will be announced by the challenge organizers and highlighted as part of Global Atlanta’s Export Stories event later this year. \nRound two of Atlanta MEC will feature eligible finalists in a Pitch Day competition\, in which the companies will present their export plans to a panel of judges. The top three companies to emerge from Pitch Day will receive additional grants of $20\,000\, $10\,000 and $5\,000. \nCome mingle with other exporters and enjoy a beer from one of Atlanta’s finest (and most export-oriented) craft brewers while learning how to apply for this important grant and how to get your company featured on Global Atlanta\, which later in the year will be publishing an Export Stories special report.  \nView the full flyer: \n2017 MEC Flyer – Interactive Final

SUMMARY:The Vietnam War - Documentary Preview Screening and Filmmaker Discussion
DESCRIPTION:THE VIETNAM WAR an immersive ten part\, eighteen hour documentary film series directed by Ken Burns and Lynn Novick\, tells the epic story of one of the most consequential\, divisive\, and misunderstood events in American history. The series features testimony of nearly 100 eye-witnesses\, including “ordinary” Americans who fought in the conflict and those who fought against it\, and “ordinary” Vietnamese soldiers and civilians from the North and the South. In recalling for the camera what they saw and felt and did half a century ago\, these men and women reveal the human dimensions of the searing tragedy that tore America apart\, unified Vietnam under communist rule\, and cost the lives of 58\,000 Americans and as many as three million Vietnamese. \nJoin us for a preview of selected footage from the series and an in-depth discussion with Co-Director Lynn Novick and Producer Sarah Botstein moderated by GPB’s Celeste Headlee.
