SUMMARY:Fourth Annual Maternity Fundraiser
DESCRIPTION:In the last three years\, GWAG has successfully raised money to support and transform maternity wards across Ghana. The donated supplies have provided the hospital staff with the tools needed to provide decent care to patients and increased access to maternity care for many women in the communities they serve. GWAG’s third shipment recently arrived at the port in Ghana and has since been cleared by Rotary club and GWAG members living in Ghana. See some pictures here: \nAs an association\, we have made a lot of progress in fulfilling our desire to “better the maternity experience in Ghana\, one ward at a time”. However\, there is still a lot of work to do. So as they continue with their efforts to provide maternity ward supplies and create a system of sustainability\, they ask that you continue to support us by helping us reach our fundraising goal of $25\,000 for our 2019 project.

At a young age he joined his father’s steel band\, performing at Carnival fetes\, and immersing himself in the folklore. Through Etienne’s 2015 Guggenheim Fellowship Award\, he returns to his roots to celebrate the traditions that best exemplify Trinidadian culture. Etienne Charles is hailed by The New York Times as “an auteur” and by JazzTimes as “A daring improviser who delivers with heart wrenching lyricism\,” NPR’s All Things Considered calls him “a great young trumpeter.”

After the liberation of Czechoslovakia in 1945\, he visits the prison yard where their coach died\, picking up a handful of soil and placing in a box with national colors. The team carries this talisman to the European Championship in Geneva where the Czechs miraculously win in 1946. However\, everything changes again with the communist coup in February 1948. The team will go to Paris to defend their title\, but can they succeed? \nMay 2. 2019- Suitor: Set in the late 1950s\, the communist regime controls Czechoslovakia\, and a gap has opened between the prewar and postwar generations. He has other plans for his daughter\, intent on making the perfect match with an educated catch. The romantic comedy is the final instalment of director Hřebejk’s Garden Store trilogy\, following three families: an air radio operator\, a hair salon owner\, and a garden store proprietor against the backdrop of the most dramatic periods of the last century.

SUMMARY:ACIR Hosts Joe Bankoff: "Fake News in the World Today."
DESCRIPTION:During the Cold War we were exposed to what was then called “Disinformation.” It was a tool often used by the Soviet Union to seed the political environment abroad with credible but misleading and often false information with a deliberate attempt to deceive. In some ways\, today what we call “Fake News” is similar in some ways and perhaps more pernicious in others. Come and engage in a dialogue with Joe Bankoff on “Fake News” in the World Today.” \nJoe Bankoff was appointed chair of The Sam Nunn School of International Affairs in spring 2012 following six years as president & CEO of The Woodruff Arts Center and 32 years as a senior partner at the Atlanta-based law firm of King & Spalding. \nMr. Bankoff’s expertise ranges across law and policy\, economic development\, government legislation\, fiscal planning\, and global issues. In 1992\, he took a sabbatical from his law firm to accept an appointment as a visiting scholar at the Max Planck Institute for Intellectual Property & Competition Law\, Munich\, Germany.  There he became engaged in the analysis of multi-jurisdictional copyright claims arising from satellite television in Europe.  He later represented German Television (ZDF) in a related dispute with Turner Broadcasting.  He also served as counsel to Atlanta’s Olympic Organizing Committee negotiating the television rights agreements for Europe (EBU)\, Canada\, Australia\, Latin and South America\, and the United States.
