SUMMARY:France-Atlanta: Machines of Loving Graces\, Creation and Creativity Between Humans and Machines
DESCRIPTION:  \n#FranceAtlanta2020 | Join us for a conversation between leading experts on artistic creation and collaboration between humans and machines. \n“All Watched Over by Machines of Loving Grace” is a 1967 poem by Richard Brautigan that describes the peaceful and harmonious cohabitation of humans and computers. Fifty years later – following the technological revolutions brought about by the internet\, big data\, cloud computing\, and deep learning – Brautigan’s vision resonates singularly. It compels us to rethink our interactions with machines\, even in regard to the intimate act of artistic creation. In collaboration with its American partners\, France’s Institute for Research and Coordination in Acoustics/Music (IRCAM) invites participants to discover some remarkable examples of possible artistic relationships between humans and computers during two seminars featuring researchers and artists who are building this new deal. \nOct 14: “Working Creatively with Machines”\nParticipants :\n– Carmine Cella (CNMAT – CU Berkeley)\n– Rémy Mignot (IRCAM)\n– Nicolas Obin (Sorbonne Université & IRCAM)\n– Alex Ruthman (New York University)\n– Grace Leslie (Georgia Tech) \nOct 15: “Performances with Machines”\nParticipants:\n– Jérôme Nika and/or Gérard Assayag (IRCAM)\n– Benjamin Levy (IRCAM)\n– Philippe Esling (Sorbonne University & IRCAM)\n– Jason Freeman (Georgia Tech) \nThis virtual event is free and open to the public.\n**Stay tuned for the event link. \nThis event is organized by IRCAM – the Institute for Research and Coordination in Acoustics/Music – and the STMS lab (The French National Centre for Scientific Research\, the Ministry of Culture and Sorbonne University)\, in collaboration with Georgia Tech’s School of Music\, NYU Steinhardt – Music Education\, the UC Berkeley Center for New Music and Audio Technologies\, and the Atlanta Office of the Cultural Services of the Embassy of France in the United States. \n#FranceAtlanta | Created in 2010 by the Consulate General of France in Atlanta and Georgia Tech\, France-Atlanta is a series of events centered on innovation and designed to foster cooperation between France and the U.S. Southeast. \nDiscover this year’s events☞ https://france-atlanta.org

SUMMARY:International Business Webinar Series: Leadership in Global Companies in Times of Pandemic
DESCRIPTION:The Coronavirus pandemic and the ensuing global recession have created a most formidable disruption for business. Do they also imply a different type of leadership? Commentators\, consultants\, and executives are calling for new imperatives in setting goals\, revisiting operating models\, leadership attributes\, embracing “stakeholder capitalism” and so on. \nHear what two senior leaders with extensive experience at The Coca-Cola Company — one of the most global companies in the world — have to say about the impact of the pandemic on leadership. Galya Molinas is President of the Mexico business unit of The Coca-Cola Company. Previously\, she served as Senior Vice President of Global Strategy & Insights for the company. Ahmet Bozer served as the President of Coca-Cola International and Executive Vice President from 2013 until his retirement in 2016. In that position\, he was responsible for all units outside North America. \nCollectively\, Galya and Ahmet will respond to the following questions. First\, how is this pandemic different from other crises you have faced before\, how is it not so different? Second\, how can its impact on business be described? Third\, how does it impact a business organization at large? Fourth\, how have you led differently compared to previous crises in which you have led organizations? Finally\, what have been the learnings so far\, and has the pandemic helped you become better leaders? \nThis webinar will be moderated by Richard Phillips\, Dean of the J. Mack Robinson College of Business at Georgia State University\, and C.V. Starr Professor of Risk Management and Insurance. Richard’s area of expertise is risk management. \nKey takeaways: \n\nHow do major disruptions impact global companies?\nIn what ways are global companies meeting the challenge?\nDo such disruptions compel leaders to re-think leadership goals and style?\n\nAbout the Speakers\n \nAhmet Bozer  \nPresident\, Coca-Cola International and Executive Vice President (retired)\nThe Coca Cola Company \nAhmet Bozer retired from The Coca Cola Company as an Executive Vice President in 2016. DESCRIPTION:Cyber Growth Leader Thomas Finan will present a webinar on:\n“AFTER COVID-19: CYBER AND THE COMING REMOTE WORK REVOLUTION” \nAbout the Webinar: \nIn the wake of COVID-19\, the percentage of full-time employees working permanently from home will expand 733% over pre-pandemic levels.  Cybercriminals are shifting their tactics accordingly\, targeting often less-than-secure remote worksites to gain quick access to corporate systems.  To protect themselves\, organizations must squarely address the human element of cyber risk.  Tom Finan of Willis Towers Watson will discuss how CISOs and HR leaders can collaborate to address four key aspects of employee experience that are the foundation of more effective cyber risk cultures.  In so doing\, they can help ensure their organizations not only survive a cyber incident but also thrive in its aftermath. \nAbout Thomas Finan: \nTom Finan is a Cyber Growth Leader within Willis Towers Watson’s FINEX Cyber/E&O Practice. In this role\, Tom advances the company’s integrated approach to cybersecurity across all aspects of people\, capital\, and technology risk. Tom previously worked as the Chief Strategy Officer of Ark Network Security Solutions. He also served as Senior Cybersecurity Strategist and Counsel with the Department of Homeland Security’s National Protection and Programs Directorate. While at DHS\, Tom established and led the agency’s cybersecurity insurance initiative in support of implementation of Executive Order 13636\, “Improving Critical Infrastructure Cybersecurity.” To advance that effort\, he created DHS’ Cyber Incident Data and Analysis Working Group (CIDAWG)\, a private-public engagement forum that examined how a cyber incident data repository could help meet the information and analysis requirements of the insurance industry and technical cybersecurity professionals. \nTom previously served as the Staff Director and Counsel for the Subcommittee on Intelligence\, Information Sharing and Terrorism Risk Assessment with the U.S. House Committee on Homeland Security. During his time with the Committee\, he authored two major reports that informed many of the statutory provisions that he helped develop for Title V of the Implementing Recommendations of the 9/11 Commission Act of 2007 (P.L. 110-53) and the Reducing Over-Classification Act of 2010 (P.L. 111-258). Tom is a former Assistant General Counsel at the FBI. He has also worked in private litigation practice. \nTom earned his J.D. from the University of Minnesota Law School and B.A. from the University of Virginia.

SUMMARY:The Education Revolution: Brand new world or simply a better one for every individual?
DESCRIPTION:#FranceAtlanta2020 | On the occasion of the 2020 edition of France-Atlanta\, the French Foreign Trade Advisors for the U.S. Southeast are hosting a series of webinars on major transatlantic trends\, showcasing experts from both France and the United States. The webinars will focus on the impact of the health and economic crisis due to COVID-19 on several key sectors including education (particularly distance learning)\, remote working\, agri-business\, the shared economy\, investment opportunities\, and more. \nThe health and economic crises engendered by COVID-19 have accelerated profound changes that began several years ago. They highlighted the societal and structural problems of growing inequalities\, access to education\, and the growing mismatch between the available workforce and new professional and technical needs. College degrees\, once seen as the panacea and an unquestionable investment\, are being increasingly challenged by alternative credentials and modular learning activities. At the same time\, a growing percentage of the population is at risk of being permanently unemployed as their occupations are being made obsolete\, threatened by AI/automation and/or offshoring. Could those millions of individuals be the response to the shortage of qualified candidates experienced by large technology corporations and more generally unfilled STEM roles? How do we re-skill a large number of motivated and committed individuals at a reasonable cost and speed? In the past few years\, the Ed Tech revolution has enabled unprecedented flexibility\, personalized learning\, high engagement at a minimal cost. Come and join us to hear from those of leaders\, from both France and Atlanta\, each contributing and collaborating\, to solve dramatic societal issues and give hope and a bright future to thousands of Atlanta residents and global citizens. \nPanelists:\n– Moderator: Iwan Streichenberger\, former President of Pearson Online Learning\n– Pierre Dubuc\, co-founder and CEO of OpenClassrooms\n– Steve Harmon\, associate dean of research in Georgia Tech Professional Education (GTPE)\, interim executive director of the Center for 21st Century Universities (C21U)\, and as a professor at the Georgia Tech College of Design \n__\nNominated by the French Prime Minister by official decree\, French Foreign Trade Advisors are members of a network of 4\,000+ business leaders who share their business experience\, on a voluntary basis\, to contribute to the development of France.

SUMMARY:International Business Webinar Series: Using GlobeSmart™ to Enhance International Business Teaching
DESCRIPTION:Featuring:\nDr. P. Roberto Garcia\, Indiana University\n\nThe reality of business education today is that many faculty members are facing the necessity to address the impact of culture on individuals and firms operating in a very globally dispersed and interconnected work world. Thus\, business professors today need to be familiar with the tools and techniques available to supplement our knowledge and training on the topic of culture. This session will demonstrate Dr. P. Roberto Garcia’s approach to using GlobeSmart which has been developed over a long span at Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business with Undergraduate\, MBA\, and Online MBA students. Students benefit by having more faculty using a more engaging and stimulating teaching tool in their international business courses. Instructors benefit by the possibility of incorporating GlobeSmart\, along with assignment tips\, for a more effective and enjoyable teaching experience.\n\nKey takeaways:\n\nDemonstration of how to use GlobeSmart to deliver content and create enhanced student interactions.\nTips and examples of how to structure relevant assignments.\nFree access to GlobeSmart for 1-month in order to fully try out the tool.\n\n\nGlobeSmart is a powerful online resource to help access a number of cultural research\, teaching\, and training tools. GlobeSmart addresses the greatest cause of difficulties in global business transactions – the lack of “cultural awareness skills” for relating successfully with counterparts from other countries. GlobeSmart provides information on how to work with counterparts from almost 100 countries\, answering questions such as:\n\nWhat are China’s core values and implications for business?\nWhat is the most effective leadership style in India?\nHow should I tailor my presentation for a Japanese audience?\nHow can we effectively manage change across our operations in France?\nHow can we motivate innovation in Germany?\nWhat are pitfalls to transferring knowledge in Brazil?\nHow do Mexicans generally perceive hierarchy in business interactions?\nHow should I prepare for travel to Thailand?\nHow important are status and group orientation in S.
