SUMMARY:Chatham County – Planning for New South Korean Neighbors
DESCRIPTION:Join World Trade Center Savannah in partnership with the four counties of the Savannah Harbor-Interstate 16 Corridor Joint Development Authority for a program and discussion in understanding how best to welcome our new South Korean neighbors to our local communities as the Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America is built at the Bryan County Megasite. As this enormous investment evolves\, our communities will host many South Korean nationals and their families through the design\, construction and production phases of making this state-of-the-art plant the premier EV production facility in North America\, along with their suppliers locating throughout the region. While many tasks lie ahead\, making these families feel welcome and helping them adjust to life in the United States\, Georgia and in our communities is essential. \nGuest speaker Jeanne Charbonneau\, who served for 17 years as the primary point-of-contact for South Korean families in the Montgomery\, Alabama River Region\, will share her experiences\, insights\, successes and challenges with our community leaders. We will benefit enormously from their “lessons learned.” Topics will cover educational placement\, housing\, access to medical care\, including vaccinations\, and the need to develop programs to address second-language proficiency for both students and adults. \nThe Chatham County program will take place Thursday\, Jan. 19 at the Georgia Quick Start facility\, 1500 Pine Meadow Drive\, Pooler\, Georgia 31322. Interested parties can choose to attend the 9 – 11 a.m. program or the 3 – 5 p.m. program. This program is also taking place in Bryan\, Effingham and Bulloch Counties on Tuesday\, Jan. 17\, Wednesday\, Jan. 18\, and Friday\, Jan. 20\, respectively. This program is free of charge\, but registration is required.

SUMMARY:Devising Successful U.S. Foreign Policies: Lessons from the Ukraine Crisis and the Middle East
DESCRIPTION:The elements of a nation state’s stated foreign policy goals\, on its surface\, may appear quite simple to the outside world; however\, complex issues and challenges reviewed during the formulation period can generate intense internal debate. A greater challenge? Determining its success or failure. \nJoin ACIR to hear from a former American ambassador to the Middle East as he examines what foreign policy lessons may be learned from an analysis of the current Ukraine conflict and the historical Abraham Accords in the Middle East; a journey well worth taking. \n  \nAbout Ambassador (ret.) Lawrence R. Silverman \nLawrence R. Silverman is a retired member of the Senior Foreign Service; his last posting in a 35-year U.S. State Department career was as the U.S. Ambassador to Kuwait until October 2019. Silverman was Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs\, responsible for Syria\, Jordan\, Lebanon\, Israel\, and Palestinian affairs. Larry also served as then-Vice President Biden’s Special Advisor for Europe and Russia; the State Department’s Director of Israel and Palestinian Affairs; Deputy Coordinator of U.S. Assistance to Europe and Eurasia; Director of the Office of Ukraine\, Moldova and Belarus Affairs; Deputy Chief of Mission of the U.S. Embassy in Slovakia; and Deputy Director of the Office of Southern European Affairs\, covering U.S. policy toward Turkey\, Greece and Cyprus. \nDuring the first half of his State Department career\, Amb. Silverman focused on issues related to the Middle East\, serving overseas in Jordan and Syria\, and domestically as Special Advisor to Assistant Secretary for Near Eastern Affairs William Burns. He was also Deputy Director of Public and Press Affairs on Arab-Israeli issues. Larry began his State Department career in South Africa and Namibia; he was a member of the U.S. team that negotiated the agreement on the independence of Namibia and the withdrawal of Cuban troops from Angola. SUMMARY:“Changing Dynamics of International Competition in Fashion Entrepreneurship: Sustainability as a Game-Changer”
DESCRIPTION:Join Georgia State University CIBER for their International Business Webinar Series\, “Changing Dynamics of International Competition in Fashion Entrepreneurship: Sustainability as a Game-Changer”.\n\nRecently\, the nature of entrepreneurial activity has gone through tremendous change with entrepreneurs designing business models challenging even the strongest global players\, and responding to urgent calls such as sustainability. Fashion industry have showcased numerous striking examples of how new ventures change the rules of the game in a well-established industrial domain. This has been traced in the rise of several international brands founded by fashion entrepreneurs (i.e.\, ACBC Shoes\, Reformation\, Everlane\, Patagonia)\, in the increasing number of collaborations between incumbent firms\, new ventures and NGOs (i.e.\, ACBC shoes collaborating with luxury brands like Missoni and Chloe\, Gucci collaborating with Wordrise and Artolution\, Adidas collaborating with Parley for the Oceans)\, as well as in criticisms towards the current business models of established global brands (i.e.\, fast fashion companies like Zara).\n\nWith the purpose of providing insight both from the academic domain and practice\, this webinar will present a discussion to highlight following questions:\n\n-How does a strong orientation towards sustainability transform the playground of big multinationals in the fashion industry? What kind of opportunities have emerged for international new ventures?\nHow do digital technologies change the nature of fashion entrepreneurship and affect the achievement of sustainability-oriented goals? Is technology a part of the problem\, or is it the solution?\nIn the face of these changes\, what are the high priorities on the agenda of practitioners? What are the striking research questions for academics?\n\n\nKey take-aways:\n\nHearing about the personal experience of a fashion entrepreneur with international coverage.\nGaining a viewpoint on various business model implications of sustainability orientation with a special focus on how entrepreneurs change the face of international competition in the fashion industry.\nLearning about new research questions and strategies
