SUMMARY:Singing Africa: Ibeyi in concert at the Variety Playhouse
DESCRIPTION:Franco-Cuban twins Naomi and Lisa-Kaindé Diaz of hit duo Ibeyi bring their soulful voices and magnetic stage presence to Atlanta for a night of electrifying music. The 22-year-old sisters — who sing in English and Yoruba\, the language of their Nigerian ancestors who arrived in Cuba as slaves — burst onto the music scene in 2015 with their self-titled debut album\, which blends hip-hop\, jazz and soul with electronic beats and traditional instruments. The pair draws influence from both their Parisian upbringing and the Afro-Cuban musical tradition of their father\, famed Cuban percussionist Angá Díaz. Ibeyi means “twins” in Yoruba.

SUMMARY:Panel Discussion: The new EU Privacy Regulations and How U.S. Businesses Must Comply
DESCRIPTION:Attention businesses\, accounting firms\, investors on behalf of investment companies\, financial and investment counselors\, consumer product companies; any business that collects personal data from their websites and in their business dealings-either directly or indirectly through others: \nDoes your organization do business in the European Union? Do you have contact information in your technology systems for European Union residents\, individuals\, and businesses? Then you need to comply with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) starting in May\, 2018.\nPlease join this distinguished panel of lawyers from England\, Germany\, Belgium\, and The United States to learn what the GDPR means to you and your business and how to make sure you are in compliance. \n1. US businesses are ignoring the GDPR – they don’t think they are subject to it if they have no offices or physical location in the European Union. That is not correct. If you have any dealings with European Union individuals – even as a business to business company – and you possess their names\, email addresses\, employee and contractor records\, financial records\, etc.) – wherever it is stored and however it is used – you must understand the GDPR and comply with it. \n2. Get access to a number of skilled European lawyers who want to educate you\, for free\, on the GDPR why you need to pay attention to it now and how you can comply. Ask your questions now on this confusing regulation! \n3. Yes\, the United Kingdom is included in this directive\, regardless of Brexit. So if you have offices in the UK with employees\, etc. there – you must comply. \n4. There are substantial penalties for non-compliance – and US businesses are not completely shielded from legal exposure just by virtue of their U.S. location. \n5. Guess what!? GDPR was written by lawyers\, is broadly drafted and totally confusing! That’s why having access to people “in the know” is critical! \nEvent is FREE but registration is required.
