SUMMARY:Screening of the Swiss documentary 'Ambassade'
DESCRIPTION:About this Event \n\n\nThe Consulate General of Switzerland together with the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library is pleased to invite you to the screening of the movie Ambassade. \nAmbassade is a movie that questions the role of diplomatic relations and territorial representation. Through the prism of the American hostage crisis in Iran between 1979 and 1981\, this film focuses on Switzerland`s role as intermediary in resolving this international conflict. Filmmaker Daniel Wyss will be joining us for this special screening at the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library in Atlanta. The event will take place on Monday\, October 28th. The screening will be preceded at 6pm by a small reception. \nMore details: \nPascal Décosterd was a young Swiss diplomat sent to Tehran in 1979. Today\, recently retired\, he is embarking on a journey to try to understand the events of which he was one of the actors. Flavio Meroni was number 2 of the Swiss Embassy in Iran\, today he is writing a book on negotiations to free the hostages. In their company we visit places in the United States\, Iran and Switzerland\, we meet the protagonists and retrace the different stages of these three years that shaped a new global balance. Behind the scenes of these events\, where small and great history mingle\, Ambassade offers insights into the importance of the human being at the heart of major diplomatic mechanisms. \nTrailer:

SUMMARY:The Prospect for Peace on the Korean Peninsula Luncheon
DESCRIPTION:While the media focus on the Korean Peninsula has slowed since the 2019 Hanoi Summit\, the tension still remains. Despite initial optimism and relationship building between President Trump and Chairman Kim Jung-un\, the two summits have not yielded significant result in the way of securing North Korean denuclearization\, and Kim Jong-un has not yet given up the hermit kingdom’s nuclear program. \nTo evaluate the prospects for peace on the Korean Peninsula\, it is essential to understand the relationships between South and North Korea and negotiations between the United States and North Korea. Nothing is more important than ensuring that the U.S. and South Korea are on the same page. \nCome join for a luncheon discussion on “The Prospect for Peace on the Korean Peninsula” and learn how the U.S. and South Korea are working together on one of the world’s most pressing security issues. Dr. Kim Reimann\, Associate Professor from Georgia State University will moderate a conversation with: \n\nScott Snyder\, Senior Fellow for Korea Studies & Director of the Program on U.S.-Korea Policy\, Council on Foreign Relations\nDr. Han-shik Park\, Professor Emeritus & Founding Director of the Center for the Study of Global Issues\, University of Georgia\nSoojin Park\, Public Policy Fellow\, Wilson Center & former Deputy Spokesperson\, Ministry of Unification in the Korean Government\n\nMembers: $20 \nNon-members: $40
