Endicott \nPresident of Woosong University \nVice-Chancellor of SolBridge International School of Business \nDaejeon\, Republic of Korea \nDr. Endicott’s career spans 28-years in the U.S. Air Force\, three years as SES-4 Director of the Institute for National Strategic Studies\, 18+ years at Georgia Tech as Professor and Center Director\, and 14 years as President and Vice-Chancellor of Woosong University in Daejeon\, ROK. His Ph.D.\, MALD\, and A.M. Degrees are from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy of Tufts University in cooperation with Harvard; his M.A. is from Omaha University and his B.A.in Political Science (cum laude) is from The Ohio State University where he was inducted into the American academic society Phi Beta Kappa. He holds two honorary doctorates from the University of Toulouse\, France\, and Dankook University of Yongin\, South Korea. In 1991 he introduced the concept for a Limited Nuclear Weapons-Free Zone in Northeast Asia (LNWFZ-NEA) which received nominations for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2005 and 2009. He has authored or co-authored six books primarily on Asian and U.S. security and political issues\, including Japan’s Nuclear Option. His most recent book\, his memoirs\, Destined to Serve\, was published in December 2020. \nIn March 2019 he was appointed to the Board of Advisors for the Republic of Korea Army Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC). He holds a number of military decorations for his 31-year service in the U.S. Government\, including the Defense Superior Service Medal\, the Legion of Merit Medal\, the Bronze Star Medal\, the Meritorious Service Medal\, Air Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster for 50 combat missions\, the Air Force Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster\, and the Vietnam Service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars\, among others. In October 2019\, he was notified that he has been awarded a Marquis Who’s Who Lifetime Achievement Award and will be included in subsequent publications of that organization. \nWoosong University\, which Endicott heads\, is a medium-sized specialized university with a global mission. It has approximately 13\,500 students (2\,500 international) attending eight colleges: Railroad Transportation College\, Hotel Management and Culinary Arts College\, Digital Convergence College\, and the Health and Welfare College (all primarily in Korean). SolBridge International School of Business (the fifth college) is an all-English language college created in 2007 offering BBAs and MBAs to over 1\,600 students (pre-COVID Era). Thirty percent are Korean\, 20 percent Chinese and 26 percent Russian speaking from Russia and Central Asia\, and the rest of the 24% come from 62 other nations of the world and is AACSB accredited. As the sixth college\, Sol International School offers specialized English language tracks in the four Korean language colleges. The Endicott College of International Studies\, the seventh college at Woosong\, offers courses in Korean and English language as the liberal arts college of Woosong. In the Fall Semester of 2020\, the J.W. Kim College of Future Studies was added to especially address the needs of education in the 4th Industrial Revolution. \n  \nDestined to Serve: From the Queen City to Daejeon and the Presidency of a Korean University\nThis is the story of a Cold Warrior who experiences the dangers of total nuclear war from the Underground War Room in SAC Headquarters during the Cuban Missile Crisis and later\, flying targeting missions during the early days of America’s involvement in Vietnam. More importantly\, Endicott’s story and ultimate mission in life is the work he has done to the control and reduction of nuclear weapons and the development of regional peace through the internationalization of higher education in Northeast Asia. And he still believes the best thing he ever did in life was to marry his wife of 60 years\, Mitsuyo\, from Japan. \n  \nGeorgia’s deep pool of international expertise is sometimes hidden in the ivory towers of academia or overshadowed by looming national figures. DESCRIPTION:The Atlanta Council on International Relations and The Daisy Alliance would like to invite you to their webinar: Time Is Not on Our Side: Confronting the Ever-Growing Nuclear Threat. \nIn 1947\, the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists debuted its famous Doomsday Clock\, a design that is intended to warn the public about the imminence of the totally of threats (threats of our own making) that humanity faces. When the minute hand was last reset nearly a year ago\, it was moved to only 100 seconds from midnight\, the closest it has ever been. According to the Bulletin and numerous observers\, nuclear war is now an existential threat to humanity. \nThis program will feature experts from the Daisy Alliance\, a nonpartisan\, nongovernmental organization that promotes peace and security through nonproliferation and disarmament of nuclear weapons and the rule of international law. The participants will engage in a round table discussion about the nuclear threat and related issues. They will discuss\, among other subjects: \n\nThe role of nuclear weapons in international politics in the post-cold war period\nThe role of civil society in efforts to eliminate the threat of nuclear weapons\nExpectations for the incoming Joseph Biden administration.\n\nDr. Gregory Hall joined the Patterson School of Diplomacy and International Commerce at the University of Kentucky in fall 2016. He previously served as Head of the Department of Political Science and Director of the International Studies Program at Morehouse College. Dr. Hall has held appointments at institutions both in the United States and abroad\, to include Hong Kong and Turkey. His primary areas of teaching and research include international relations\, international security\, foreign policy\, Global South affairs\, international political economy\, and Eurasian affairs. Professor Hall is author of several articles and is co-editor of (and contributor to) the book\, Eternal Colonialism (University Press of America\, Inc.\, 2010). His most recent book is titled Authority\, Ascendancy\, and Supremacy: China\, Russia\, and the United States’ Pursuit of Relevancy and Power (Routledge/Taylor & Francis\, 2014). Professor Hall is currently working on a book project that is a follow-up to his previous U.S-China-Russia study. \nBruce Roth is the founder of the Daisy Alliance. He also co-founded ERISAPros\, which provides ERISA complaint documents for employers to meet required Department of Labor financial reporting disclosures. He is retired from Roth & Associates\, Inc.\, a full-service employee benefits brokerage and consulting firm in Atlanta and Coordinated Capital Corporation\, a Registered Investment Advisor. Bruce was admitted to the Registry of Financial Planning Practitioners and is a member of Mensa. He was a Series 7 and 63 Registered Representative and licensed Insurance Counselor. He has presented continuing education lectures for attorneys\, accountants\, and trust officers on advanced insurance topics\, and he has been published in Business Insurance magazine. Bruce is a graduate of Georgia Institute of Technology and holds a Master of Science in Financial Services from The American College. His professional affiliations include: CLU (CLU (Chartered Life Underwriter); ChFC (Chartered Financial Consultant); RHU (Registered Health Underwriter); and EBC (Registered Employee Benefit Consultant). \nHolly Lindamood is currently on sabbatical from teaching international relations\, most recently at the University of West Georgia\, while she writes her first novel. She has a passion for activism and recently started a blog on social justice issues\, The SJ Files. Her past research includes examining the role of civil society in building support for global arms control agreements\, with an emphasis on how framing matters when creating an international coalition. She served as the Daisy Alliance program director from 2008-2013 and has continued in a volunteer capacity\, speaking to diverse groups on the need for nuclear disarmament. In 2010\, she addressed delegates at the NPT Review Conference on behalf of civil society on the benefits of a nuclear-weapon-free-zone in the Middle East. \nKevely Dumay is a native Haitian who has lived in the United States since 2012. He attended Bluegrass Community and Technical College (BCTC) where he studied accounting\, and later served as Legislative Intern to State Senator Reginald Thomas (D-Lexington). Following his time at BCTC\, Kevely attended Eastern Kentucky University and obtained a bachelor’s degree in International Business\, Political Science\, and Corporate Communication. While at EKU\, Kevely was a McNair’s Scholar\, studied abroad in Italy\, and worked as non-partisan staff at the Legislative Research Commission. Kevely is currently enrolled at the University of Kentucky’s Patterson School of International Commerce and Diplomacy. While at Patterson\, Kevely worked at AppHarvest as a Government Relations Associate. Upon graduation\, Kevely is hoping to utilize his language skills (French\, Creole\, English) and knowledge of International Affairs and Commerce to promote peace and economic integration & development in the global south. \nEmma Goldsby is a junior at the University of Kentucky\, where she studies Political Science\, Islamic Studies\, and Peace Studies. She also studies Arabic. Emma first got involved with Daisy-UK Alliance when she participated in the Annual International Diplomacy conference in Atlanta\, GA. DESCRIPTION:Please join Kennesaw State University Center for African and African Diaspora Studies as they welcome Dr. Krishauna Hines-Gaither for their spring conversation series\, “Let’s Talk with Dr. Krishauna Hines-Gaither.” \nDuring the first event in the series\, you will gain the skills to practice culturally responsive pedagogy. Gloria Ladson-Billings (1995)\, a forerunner in theorizing culturally responsive pedagogy\, defines the term as the “dynamic or synergistic relationship between home/community culture and school culture” (p. 467). In other words\, how do we bring the cultures of our students into the classroom so that learning is relevant\, relatable\, and transformative? This workshop focuses on Black college students (but is applicable to K-12). \nAbout the Speaker\nDr. Krishauna Hines-Gaither serves as the Associate Vice President for Diversity\, Equity and Inclusion at Guilford College in Greensboro\, NC. She holds a Ph.D. in Cultural Studies from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She has worked in the field of diversity for over 15 years. Before becoming an administrator\, Dr. Hines-Gaither was a college professor for almost two decades. She taught Spanish\, (Afro)Latin American Studies\, African Diaspora Studies and Women and Gender Studies. She is a frequent speaker\, trainer and scholar on a variety of topics related to inclusion. Dr. Hines-Gaither has been quoted in national publications\, and she is a leading diversity consultant to top rated U.S. and international companies. Dr. Hines-Gaither is also a popular blogger at Cup of Diversity.com. \n  \nUpcoming events in this series include: \n\n\nHow to navigate difficult dialogues on sensitive topics\nDate: Tuesday\, March 2\nTime: 3:30 – 5 p.m. \nAs our world engages in difficult dialogues on a national scale\, the classroom often becomes a microcosm of current events. Educators who work with diverse students online or in face-to-face settings must have tools in their repertoire for engaging difficult dialogues. In this workshop\, you will gain hands-on strategies to incorporate\, facilitate\, and manage content related to racial tensions\, social identity\, and current events.\n\nIntersectionality\nDate: Wednesday\, March 17\nTime: 3:30 – 5 p.m. \nBuilding on the foundational work of Kimberlé Crenshaw\, this workshop examines the foundations of intersectionality in terms of multiple identities\, and also intersectional failures. This workshop will also incorporate strategies for building networks of solidarity across differences\, and activism from an intersectional lens.\n\nBlack women and women of color’s strategic voice: How to be heard when no one is listening\nDate: Tuesday\, March 30\nTime: 3:30 – 5 p.m. \nBlack women are often silenced and made to feel invisible in the workplace\, and in other spaces. This workshop examines institutional structures in terms of power dynamics. Gain tangible tools and strategies for how Black women can come from the margin to the center. Learn how to get to the table\, and how to maximize your space once there. These tools will be advantageous for women of color in general.\n\nStereotype Threat\nDate: Wednesday\, April 14\nTime: 3:30 – 5 p.m. \nCoined by psychologist Claude Steele\, stereotype threat is the tendency to perform down to people’s expectations of a social group. In other words\, people perform not based on their abilities\, but based on how others perceive them\, especially marginalized people. This workshop unpacks the concept of stereotype threat\, its counterpart the imposter syndrome\, and offers strategies for how to combat them.\n\nDimensions of Oppression (Personal\, Interpersonal\, Institutional\, Systemic\, Cultural)\nDate: Tuesday\, April 27\nTime: 3:30 – 5 p.m. \nThis workshop presents the five dimensions of oppression and offers examples of each\, as well as strategies for combating them. Many individuals are not equipped to combat oppression because they have failed to name it. Some are fighting the wrong fight. They may be attacking an issue on an interpersonal level\, that really needs an institutional response. Powerful change can happen when there is a systematic understanding about the inner workings of the dimensions of oppression.\n\n

DESCRIPTION:  \n  \nThis webinar is also presented as part of the Atlanta Peace Education Initiative: Future of Peace Education & Research series. \nSpeakers: \n \nGENERAL PHIL BREEDLOVE\nDistinguished Professor and Center for European and Transatlantic Studies (CETS) Senior Fellow\, Sam Nunn School of atInternational Affairs\, Georgia Tech; retired General of the U.S Air Force; former Supreme Allied Commander of NATO \nPhil Breedlove is a proven strategic planner\, a motivational leader and talented communicator.  He is a highly decorated retired General of the United States Air Force reaching the pinnacle of the United States Military as one of six geographic Combatant Commanders and Supreme Allied Commander of NATO. During 39 years of service\, he held a variety of demanding command and staff positions.  He has led large-scale\, diverse\, global operations across two theaters of combat.  He earned a reputation as an inspirational leader who was focused on his people\, their families and mission accomplishment.  Leading a diverse political-military alliance he was able to build consensus and form teams to accomplish complex tasks spanning multiple continents. He held a variety of additional assignments including command of a squadron\, a group\, three fighter wings and a Numbered Air Force in service across three different continents. His extensive command and control experience in wartime\, contingency and humanitarian relief actions include operations in Africa\, Asia and the Middle East. \nHe earned his Bachelor of Civil Engineering degree from The Georgia Institute of Technology and a Master of Science in Aerospace Technology from Arizona State University.  Additionally\, he completed a Masters of International Security Affairs from the National War College\, A Fellowship in International Security Affairs\, Seminar XXI from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and completed Leadership at the Peak at the Center for Creative Leadership Colorado Springs. He is currently serving on the Georgia Tech Advisory Board\, as a Distinguished Professor at the Sam Nunn School of International Affairs at Georgia Tech\, as the CEO Emerald Coast Strategic Solutions\, and on the Board of Directors of the Atlantic Council. \n  \n \nJOSEPH B. HUGHES\, Ph.D.\, P.E.\, DEE\, F.AEESP\nUniversity Distinguished Professor; Civil\, Architectural\, and Environmental Engineering\, and Dean of Engineering\, Emeritus at Drexel University; and former Karen and John Huff Chair of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Georgia Tech \nJoe Hughes founded Peace Engineering as Dean of Engineering at Drexel University.  Joe has held leadership positions in academia for more than two decades and has is recognized internationally as an educator-scholar.  His work in Peace Engineering began in Angola\, and currently includes projects in Iraq\, Syria\, and the United States.  The Peace Engineering program at Drexel is the first in the world to graduate students in this new field and is seen as a model for growth in academia.  Joe received his Ph.D. and M.S. degrees from the University of Iowa in Civil and Environmental Engineering and a B.A. from Cornell College in Chemistry. He currently holds the position of University Distinguished Professor of Engineering at Drexel University.  He served as Dean of Engineering at Drexel from 2012 to 2017 and Director of the A.J. Drexel Institute for Energy and Environment from 2014 to 2019.  Prior to his appointment at Drexel University\, he served at Georgia Tech as the Karen and John Huff School Chair of Civil and Environmental Engineering\, the Howard T. Tellepsen Chair of Civil and Environmental Engineering\, and Professor of Material Science and Engineering.  He served at Rice University at all academic ranks\, including the George R Brown Chair of Engineering and Department Chair of Civil and Environmental Engineering. \nJoe is a registered professional engineer\, a Diplomat by Eminence of the American Academy of Environmental Engineering and Science\, and Fellow of the Association of Environmental Engineering and Science Professors. Joe has received awards for his teaching and research including\, the Georgia Engineer of the Year in Education; the McKee Medal from the Water Environment Federation; and the Walter P. Huber Research Prize from the American Society of Civil Engineers.  He has been active in the National Academy of Engineering’s Frontiers of Engineering program and the Grand Challenge Scholars program.  He is served until March of 2018 as the Chair of the Science Advisory Board of the DOD/DOE/EPA research program SERDP\, has served in advisory roles to the EPA and the NRC\, and Co-Chairs the REMTEC National Conference.
