SUMMARY:Kiran Bhat's Book Launch: We of the Forsaken World
DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Kiran Bhat\nChief Guest: Archith Seshadri \nRSVP: 404-514-2739 \nCome listen as Bhat talks about his discoveries as a world traveler and reads excerpts from his new novel\, We of the Forsaken World… Copy of the book will be available for sale after the Q&A for 20 USD. Chief guest will be Archith Seshadri. Event will be followed by dinner. \nThe internet has connected and continues to connect billions of people around the world\, sometimes in surprising ways. In his sprawling new novel\, we of the forsaken world\, author Kiran Bhat has turned the fact of that once-unimaginable connectivity into a metaphor for life itself. \nIn we of the forsaken world…\, Bhat follows the fortunes of 16 people who live in four distinct places on the planet. The gripping stories include those of a man’s journey to the birthplace of his mother\, a tourist town destroyed by an industrial spill; a chief’s second son born in a nameless remote tribe\, creating a scramble for succession as their jungles are destroyed by loggers; a homeless\, one-armed woman living in a sprawling metropolis who sets out to take revenge on the men who trafficked her; and a milkmaid in a small village of shanty shacks connected only by a mud and concrete road who watches the girls she calls friends destroy her reputation. \nLike modern communication networks\, the stories in we of the forsaken world connect along subtle lines\, dispersing at the moments where another story is about to take place. Each story is a parable unto itself\, but the tales also expand to engulf the lives of everyone who lives on planet Earth\, at every second\, everywhere. \nKiran Bhat is the author of the poetry collections Autobiografia (Letrame Editorial\, 2019) and Kiran Speaks (White Elephant Press\, 2019)\, as well as the Kannada-language travelogue Tirugaatha (Chiranthana Media Solutions\, 2019) and the novel We of the Forsaken World (Iguana Books\, 2019). He has traveled to over 130 countries\, lived in 18 different places\, and speaks 12 languages. He considers Mumbai his spiritual base\, but currently lives in Melbourne. \nArchith Seshadri is a global journalist based in Atlanta\, Georgia. He is the Atlanta Bureau Chief for Nexstar Media Group serving 4 stations that represent 45 counties in Georgia (WJBF\, WSAV\, WRBL and WSPA). Archith has also written and produced pieces for CNN\, HLN\, CNN International\, Atlanta Journal Constitution and Khabar Magazine. He thrives on breaking news\, live reporting\, social media engagement and entertainment stories. Archith has covered the Ebola outbreak from Atlanta\, National Police Week from Washington D.C.\, the US 2016 election coverage from New York\, the historic Trump-Modi meeting from the White House\, and field anchored from across India.

SUMMARY:LEGO® Serious Play
DESCRIPTION:Come find out what LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® is all about\, and learn more about how it can be used in work related settings.\n\n“Think with your hands and listen with your eyes while you meet new people in a playful and creative atmosphere.”\n\nLinda Laursen and Birgitte Houen-Tolstrup are both certified in the LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® methodology and will lead you in an exercise using this method for complex problem solving in organizations.\n\nThe evening will be used to introduce the LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® methodology\, and how it can be used in a team building setting. The introduction will show how LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® can give you a better understanding of yourself and the people you work with and inspire to new ways of overcoming obstacles. \n“The LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® methodology is built upon a process which stems from the heart of LEGO elements and the LEGO building system. Looking for a tool to unlock imagination and innovation within the company\, the LEGO Group realized that a solution might be found in the LEGO® System in Play itself: just as the LEGO Group had been inspiring children to ‘build their dreams’ for decades\, so perhaps adults could be asked to build their visions for future strategy.”

SUMMARY:Emerging Technology Breakfast Series: Leveraging AI to Survive the Experience Economy
DESCRIPTION:Decision makers around the globe are questioning whether Net Promoter Score (NPS) & Customer Satisfaction (CSAT) can truly explain customers’ decisions and predict earning. The market has recently seen many successful companies tragically close\, despite these scores being at an all time high. While metrics do a great job assessing customers’ emotional connection to brands\, they do not explain the most important decision of all: to buy or not to buy. \nJoin to explore how companies can survive the Experience Economy by harnessing the power of AI to understand customer decisions. 　 \nSpeaker: \nRogerio Monteiro\, Global CCO at Worthix \nRogerio brings 18 years of vast experience in market research\, both from client and partner side. His journey on the client side includes General Motors and Kraft Foods Brazil where he led multi-country studies which gave him international exposure in 12 countries. Later in 2006 he started his career in the partner side and have led large teams at the three biggest customer research companies in the world – GfK\, Kantar and Ipsos. Rogerio is passionate about Customer Experience arena and today at Worthix he considers to be in the most innovative technology that truly explains customers decisions – Rogerio leads all client service directors in different countries. Rogerio earned his bachelor´s degree in Marketing at Universidade Paulista (São Paulo-Brazil) and a post-graduation in Marketing & Advertising at New York University NYU (New York-USA).

SUMMARY:Crisis in the Andes: Venezuela\, Colombia and Bolivia
DESCRIPTION:ACIR is honored to host Jennie Lincoln\, Special Advisor for Latin America and the Caribbean\, The Carter Center. \nCrisis in the Andes: Venezuela\, Colombia\, and Bolivia \nNorth Americans were raised with the romantic awe that came from viewing the beauty of the Andes Mountain ranges\, the natural rain forests to the east\, and the native cultures inhabiting a number of nations within its reaches. \nIn this New Year 2020\, the National Geographic panorama has been shattered by approximately one third of Venezuelan society fleeing from a failed despot into neighboring Colombia\, the residual effect being a welcoming Colombia now teetering on the edge of social and economic chaos. Add to this\, Bolivia exhausted by the incompetency of its recently deposed president\, is enmeshed in economic chaos and civil war. \nThree failed nation states that have destroyed the National Geographic image and supplanted it with the potential to have a catastrophic impact on the entire region of South America.

SUMMARY:2020 U.S. Law Updates to Know for Japanese and Other Foreign Firms
DESCRIPTION:Join Baker Donelson and Kitahama Partners Joint Seminar co-sponsored by JETRO\, JASG and JCCG \nBaker Donelson will provide updates on several key U.S. laws that Japanese businesses should know about to help reach their goals and objectives for 2020. \nThey will cover: \n\nCFIUS Regulations\nThe Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) is an inter-agency committee chaired by the Treasury Department with the authority to review\, modify and potentially reject certain types of foreign investment that could adversely affect U.S. national security. CFIUS’s new regulation can have enormous impact on transactions in U.S. because even a minority investment in a U.S. company may be subject to the CFIUS review. To avoid unexpected delay or failure of transaction\, you must know this new regulation.\nEssentials of the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA)\nThe CCPA is an expansive privacy law which provides consumers with more rights and control over the personal information that businesses collect about them. The law went into effect on January 1\, 2020\, but continues to evolve in advance of the Attorney General beginning enforcement on July 1\, 2020. It’s a good time to double-check your company’s data activities relating to California consumers and it’s not too late to address the CCPA compliance obligations.\nThe current landscape of Legalized Marijuana\nThere are a number of inconsistencies between US Federal and State laws that make it difficult to determine what is legal. 33 states plus the District of Columbia have legalized marijuana for medical purposes\, and 11 states have legalized marijuana for recreational use. Are you prepared for dealing with marijuana which appears in relation to your business and workplace?\n\nAlso joining are attorneys from Kitahama Partners from Japan. They will present “How to Handle Legal Matters in the US from Japanese Perspective\,” and also can provide insights for U.S. companies doing business in Japan. \nModerator and Speakers: \n\nBob Johnson\, Baker Donelson\, Shareholder\nJohn M. Scannapieco\, Baker Donelson\, Shareholder\nAlex Koskey\, Baker Donelson\, Associate\nMike Williams\, Baker Donelson\, Associate\nHannah Jarrells\, Baker Donelson\, Associate\nTakanori Nakajima\, Baker Donelson\, Visiting Attorney\nJiri Mestecky\, Kitahama Partners\, Partner\nMasataka Shitanishi\, Kitahama Partners\, Partner\nMika Akiyama\, Kitahama Partners\, Registered Foreign Attorney\n\nAgenda \n\n1:00 p.m. Registration\n1:30 p.m. Introductions and Welcoming Remarks\n1:40 p.m. Presentations\n4:50 p.m. Concluding Remarks – Transition to Reception\n5:00 – 6:00 p.m. Reception
