SUMMARY:Webinar: The Student Goal Centered Syllabus© — A new tool to Enhance Student Engagement and Learning
DESCRIPTION:Over 75% of students report higher levels of anxiety\, depression and stress due to the global corona-virus pandemic. \nThis is also affecting instructors as campuses open back up for an unprecedented blend of remote and in person learning. These\, and other factors\, are negatively impacting student engagement and learning. \nWe note that there is an unfortunate gap between what students are taught in college and what they are expected to know to be career ready post-graduation. \nThus\, how can we help our students through these challenging times? \nIn this webinar\, we share tips and tools on how instructors can become more compassionate and effective educators. As we begin to rethink how we connect with our students\, there is an opportunity to build greater rapport by understanding their career goals\, their need for the development of both hard and soft skills\, and by placing greater focus on relevant course content. \nWe present techniques on how each of us can make a positive and inspiring first-impression with our students by utilizing the innovative Student Goal Centered Syllabus©. \nThe Student Goal Centered Syllabus© has been designed to cultivate a more collaborative\, relationship-building environment. It links student career goals to the course Learning Outcomes. It utilizes a different tone\, uses first and second person language\, and utilizes a unique visual format appealing to a new generation of students. \nAt the end of this program\, participants will be able to: \nIdentify hard skills and soft skills that are not currently emphasized in many business syllabus and classes.\nDiscover student career goals and link them to the course Learning Outcomes and the skills desired by today’s employers.\nUtilize the Student Goal Centered Syllabus© to increase student interest\, engagement\, and learning.

DESCRIPTION:The Japan America Society of Georgia and Barnes & Thornburg invite you to an interactive presentation for Employment/Insurance Claims and Immigration. The election may have important consequences for Employers with a global workforce\, and this webinar will include discussions on the potential impact of the election and strategies in an interactive format. \nInsurance Coverage: The insurance industry has “circled the wagons” and is steadfastly opposing pandemic-related insurance claims. Businesses are struggling and need the insurance they paid for – especially now with the uncertainty of an election pending. How might the COVID coverage landscape change after the election? \nImmigration: On June 22\, 2020 President Trump signed Proclamation 10052\, temporarily suspending the entry of certain foreign nationals on nonimmigrant visas due to weaker US labor market conditions in the period following the COVID-19 outbreak; the executive order is in effect until the end of 2020. On October 5\, DHS announced the “H-1B Strengthening Rule and DOL Prevailing Wage Interim Final Rules” which may further impact foreign national employees for companies. \nZoom Webinar information & log-in details will be emailed after registering before the program.

SUMMARY:New MississippiS: Some Situated Stories on Contemporary Ecologies
DESCRIPTION:Join for a Live Talk “Some Situated Stories on Contemporary Ecologies” featuring Dr. Maurita Poole\, (Director and Chief Curator of Clark Atlanta University Art Museum)\, Clémence Hallé (Researcher and Writer) and Duncan Evennou (Theater Maker and Performer). \nIn these times of planetary troubles\, they believe that works of art and archives can help tell historically situated and pluralized stories about contemporary ecological issues. Using the South of the Mississippi River as an emblem of the markers of environmental problems\, they consider the intersection between exploitation\, ecologies\, and people in two locales in the American South. This project New MississippiS is a digital and artistic reading of multiple museums’ archives and collections. \nIn this multi-sited project\, ecologies is examined in terms of its literal and symbolic meanings. The specific materials utilized include: recordings of an international cultural institution’s project along the River;  readings of Southern writers Margaret Walker and Richard Wright; and selected works from collections at historically black institutions in Georgia and Mississippi. \nThe first public event will consist of a presentation of the overall project\, its origins and its protocols\, as well as the launch of the online platform on which the materials will be read and contextualised by a performer and the organisers. Assembled in a series of podcasts\, these audios and its images will give a taste of the story behind the curatorial process of New Mississippis. \nThis event is organized by the Clark Atlanta University Art Museum\, Jackson State University’s Margaret Walker Center\, Augusta University and the Lighthouse Company with the support of the Atlanta Office of the Cultural Services of the Embassy of France in the United States and FACE Contemporary Theater.

SUMMARY:Lomir Redn Yiddish!
DESCRIPTION:Join Goethe-Zentrum Atlanta Sunday\, November 8 via Zoom to learn about the Germanic language spoken by the Jewish community around the world: Yiddish! This event is partnered with The William Breman Jewish Heritage Museum in Atlanta. You can learn more about the museum and its programming on its website. \nMany Yiddish words have been adopted by other languages globally and you may even realize you’ve spoken some Yiddish your entire life. Ever called someone a Klutz? Or eaten a delicious bagel? Although there may be much on the surface we are already familiar with\, there is also the deeper and tragic history of how Yiddish nearly went extinct during the Holocaust\, and that even today it is in danger of being forgotten. \nIncredible host Dr. Liliane Kshensky Baxter will share with participants her experience growing up in a Yiddish-speaking household\, the unique linguistics of Yiddish and its connection to German\, and highlight the perseverance of Yiddish throughout history. \nThe virtual event is free to attend\, but attendees must register in advance to receive the Zoom login information.

SUMMARY:Ethical Management of AI: A French-American Dialogue on Privacy\, Trust and Human Oversight in Health and Well-Being
DESCRIPTION:#FranceAtlanta2020 | Artificial intelligence (AI) models are now capable of collecting and analyzing enormously large databases in ways that are challenging fundamental values claimed in Europe and the United States. Throughout their lifecycle\, AI programs and algorithms – which are full of promises of increased productivity\, efficiency\, and quality time; and conceived as an assistant\, a peer\, a manager\, or even as a friend – might be so revolutionary that no one\, regardless of whether they are consumers\, citizens\, operators or stakeholders\, will remain unaffected. Nonetheless\, AI empowers the machine to such a point that it may jeopardize what is to be human compared to a machine\, what it is to have free choice\, and even what it is to play a role in society. France\, the European Union\, and the United States have not yet clearly defined the approaches they will take to address these ethical issues. The governments are\, in 2020\, still considering options to maximize the potential of AI and big data while mitigating ethical dilemmas. \nThis virtual event is free and open to the public. \n**Stay tuned for the registration link! \n  \nThis event is organized by the Georgia Institute of Technology\, the Consulate General of France in Atlanta\, the Emory University Center for Ethics\, the Georgia Tech School of Interactive Computing\, the Université de Nantes\, SKEMA Business School\, and French Tech Raleigh – Research Triangle\, with the support of the Atlanta Office of the Cultural Services of the Embassy of France in the United State and the Office for Science and Technology of the Embassy of France in the United States. \n#FranceAtlanta | Created in 2010 by the Consulate General of France in Atlanta and Georgia Tech\, France-Atlanta is a series of events centered on innovation and designed to foster cooperation between France and the U.S. Southeast. \nDiscover this year’s events☞ https://france-atlanta.org
