SUMMARY:The Future of a Pandemic Economy
DESCRIPTION:No one needs to see through the end of COVID-19 to know that it has already disrupted the global economy. The uncertainty is how bad the economic impact will be as the pandemic is far from over\, according to health experts. \nBusinesses have shut down. Some may shut down permanently. Unemployment has skyrocketed. Individuals are facing financial anxiety while policymakers have been put on the spot to deliver an effective macroeconomic policy response for a crisis that may be worse than the Great Recession. \nDennis Lockhart\, former President and CEO of the Atlanta Federal Reserve Bank\, will share his views on the state of the US economy\, how effective economic policy actions have been so far and what else can be done. Lockhart\, who led the Atlanta Fed throughout the 2008 financial crisis\, will discuss how this situation is different and what we should expect in the years to come. \nThis program is exclusive for MEMBERS ONLY.

SUMMARY:The Future of Retail Post-Pandemic
DESCRIPTION:The COVID-19 pandemic has caused an unprecedented disruption of commerce. Stores were forced to close and some will not be able to reopen. Retailers face a daunting multitude of short-term challenges around health and safety\, supply chain\, labor force\, cash flow\, consumer demand and marketing. Advances in digital technology\, artificial intelligence and blockchain will further challenge the survival of the brick-and-mortar retail stores we once took for granted.\n\nRetail represents 31% of the world’s GDP and employs billions of people\, but its future depends on retailers’ willingness to adapt to the new realities.\nBut will that be enough? E-commerce had already affected consumer behavior prior to this pandemic and\, as social distancing becomes the norm\, it looks like we are entering a consumer world very different than what we have all grown up with.\n\nDr. Jagdish Sheth\, Charles H. Kellstadt Chair in Marketing at the Goizueta Business School at Emory University and Council Board Member\, will discuss retail trends and the future of the retailing. Dr. Sheth has published hundreds of pieces on consumer behavior\, competitive strategy\, and marketing for emerging markets.\n\nAs a courtesy\, this program is OPEN TO ALL.

SUMMARY:Why Is There No Chicken?
DESCRIPTION:In two months\, coronavirus has scrambled domestic and international supply chains. As people prepared to shelter in place\, they emptied the shelves and restaurants closed\, creating a shock in the food supply that left many of us wondering why there is no chicken in our local supermarket. \nFirst\, toilet paper. Then\, the chicken. \nWhat is happening in the production plants that puts food supply at risk? While industry experts say that shortages may take place in the product variety we are used to seeing and not in the lack of food itself\, this scenario leaves all of us anxious as we learn that the plants that process beef and pork shut down. \nJoin for a discussion with Brad Allison\, CEO of AJC International\, a global protein provider specializing in the procurement and sale of frozen beef\, poultry\, pork\, seafood and french fries. Headquartered in Sandy Springs\, AJC is a key part of the global supply chain with suppliers and customers in 138 countries on six continents. Allison will share with the current realities of the food supply chain and if\, indeed\, chicken will become a luxury item. \nAs a courtesy\, this program is OPEN TO ALL.

SUMMARY:Nu Africans Virtual Exhibit and Opening Party on May 15th
DESCRIPTION:Come to Hammonds House Museum’s virtual opening of Nu Africans\, a body of work by Maurice Evans & Grace Kisa. Nu Africans aspires to and succeeds in centering the Black woman in her own power.\nHammonds House Museum is pleased to exhibit Nu Africans\, a collaborative body of work by Maurice Evans and Grace Kisa.  Nu Africans addresses the notion that Africans of the diaspora\, through their individual circumstances\, have evolved into their own tribe of Nu Africans.  Inspired by the legendary warriors and queens from the African continent\, models were styled in elaborate costumes with striking headpieces and crowns\, then photographed as both a warrior and a queen. Though the inspiration takes its roots from the continent\, these women are from this time\, this place\, and embody all the experiences that have brought them here.  Between the real and the imagined\, Nu Africans articulates what is bold\, black and beautiful. \nThrough digital technology\, you are invited to experience the Nu Africans exhibition\, speak with the artists\, and enjoy a fabulous after-party featuring music by DJ Salah Ananse on Friday\, May 15 at 7 pm. Admission is free for Hammonds House members and $7.00 for non-members. \n“Sharing our experiences as Africans on both sides of the Atlantic was the catalyst for Nu Africans\,” states artists Maurice Evans and Grace Kisa. “Through the medium of photography\, music and video\, and in collaboration with 40 women from around the African diaspora\, we have created an exhibition which aspires to center the Black woman in her own power.”
