SUMMARY:Turkish Foreign Relations: the U.S.\, Europe\, and the Middle East
DESCRIPTION:Since coming to power in 2002\, Erdogan has reoriented Turkish foreign policy in order to situate Turkey as a regional power in the Middle East. However\, this pivot has not quite been successful.  Turkey is isolated in the Middle East\, with few friends and many threats\, ranging from the Assad regime to ISIS.  Following the July 15th coup attempt\, the United States’ ability to work with the Erdogan government in overcoming the trauma of the coup will have important long term consequences for whether Turkey maintains its course of reconciliation with the West\, or if it chooses instead to pursue Russia as a regional ally. \nThe Turkish Lecture Series is sponsored by The Claus M. Halle Institute for Global Learning at Emory University\, the Department of Middle Eastern and South Asian Studies at Emory University\, and the American-Turkish Friendship Council in Atlanta.

SUMMARY:Saudi Female Tech Pioneer Speech: Impact and Change - Paths to Social Innovation in Saudi Arabia
DESCRIPTION:Hosted by the Georgia Council for International Visitors (GCIV) and organized by the King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture\, Saudi social entrepreneur Lujain Al Ubaid will explore the current state of social entrepreneurship in Saudi Arabia through her experiences as an innovator in the field at three public and two invite-only events in Atlanta\, Georgia. \nSocial entrepreneurship is not always the first business venture associated with Saudi Arabian society; in an environment heavily fixated on either for-profit business ventures or entirely non-profit social work\, the general Saudi public is not informed of the possibility of social enterprise as a professional avenue. Despite an absence of technical expertise and recognition\, many leaders for social change have been developing models for people to participate in social programming and projects for sustainable chance. \nLujain Al Ubaid\, founder of Tasamy for Social Entrepreneurship\, is one of these leaders. \n“I [was] angry and frustrated by the undelivered promises to youth allowing them to create positive change and impact\,” Al Ubaid explains. She therefore became one of the first leaders to develop the infrastructure for social entrepreneurship in Saudi Arabia\, and moreover\, to create some of the terminology associated with the field in Arabic. \nHer organization\, Tasamy for Social Entrepreneurship\, focuses on finding sustainable solutions to social problems by encouraging and empowering youth\, community leaders\, as well as private and governmental institutions to achieve social entrepreneurship in the Gulf region. Drawing on her experiences in Saudi Arabia\, India\, and elsewhere\, Lujain Al Ubaid will highlight her journey to creating Tasamy in her talk.  She will look at ways in which youth in Saudi Arabia can be helped along the path to creative entrepreneurship and volunteerism through online incubation and incentivizing – and her prominent role in doing so as the founder of one of the few social entrepreneurship organizations. \nShe will present on: \n● 8 December\, 11:00am-12:00pm\, Agnes Scott College\, free. \n● 8 December\, 7:00pm-8:30pm\, Arnall Golden Gregory LLP\, Suite 2100\, free to GCIV members \nAl Ubaid will also speak at three invite-only events at the Mayor’s Office and two Fortune 200 companies. \nFor more information\, contact Farah Amir at farah@gciv.org or by phone at 404.832.5560\, ext. 21.

SUMMARY:Lecture with Roy Craft: Inter-Cultural Intelligence Expert
DESCRIPTION:The future is already here! Are you ready? Fundamental shifts have occurred over the past 50 years unlike any before in human history. Technological and cultural changes have altered almost every aspect of what we do\, where we do it and how we do it. So\, why are we all having so much difficulty working and living in the 21st century? \nIf you are an expatriate or working in a diverse or even international work place\, or find your children struggling to adapt in classrooms that look like they did in your day\, but resemble a mini-United Nations with more technology in each students hands than what was used to launch the first space travel to the moon\, you owe it to yourself to investigate this topic. \nPerhaps you sense a disconnect between the traditions and social values you grew up with and those your children are learning\, from just about\, well\, everywhere. Or\, are you just trying to make sense of the world today and your place in it. Maybe\, you are just yearning for the way things used to be in the ‘good old days.’ \nCome and hear a refreshing new take on the state of life today and learn about exciting new skills to help you hold onto the best of your past and present and build a bridge to more positive future in work and in life. One of the major topics to be explored will be the exciting new field of Inter-Cultural Intelligence. \n Brief Outline \n\nSummary of the global cultural and technological shifts that have occurred in the last 50 years that are unique in human history.\nHow these shifts have impacted individuals\, organizations and societies: future shock and culture shock.\nEmergence of the new discipline of inter-cultural intelligence: what is it\, where it came from and why it is important today.\nOverview of Inter-Cultural Intelligence training: application of both experiential and evidenced based resources.
