SUMMARY:How Do You Solve a Problem Like North Korea?
DESCRIPTION:The Two Koreas. \nNorth Korea is all over the headlines since it launched an intercontinental ballistic missile on July 28. “Fire and fury\,” President Trump warned North Korea on August 8. Within three days\, $1.5 trillion drained out of stock markets worldwide. Next door\, South Korea thrives economically despite constant threats and provocations from the North. South Korea has recorded impressive economic growth year after year – and this while impeaching one president and electing another. Experts agree North Korea has developed both ICBM technology and the ability to place nuclear weapons on those missiles. Add erratic leader Kim Jong-un\, and the world is in a new territory where pitfalls and dangers abound. \nJoin the discussion on the two Koreas. Experts on North and South Korea will lead us through the challenges and opportunities the world must deal with starting today. The registration begins at 11:30am and the luncheon goes from 12 noon to 1:30pm. \nThe program features: \nHohyun Jang\, Minister of Economic Affairs\, Embassy of the Republic of Korea \nZach Rosner\, Korea Desk Policy Analyst\, U.S. State Department \nMark Tokola\, Vice President\, Korea Economic Institute

SUMMARY:Who am I? An engaging lecture on biculturalism with Michel Bordeau
DESCRIPTION:Learn how to cope with the challenges of raising “Americanized French children” \nGuest speaker : Michel Bordeau Psychotherapist & Education Coach\nParenting in a multicultural family context is not for the faint of heart. Therefore to preserve our serenity and sanity\, we should pause moment to discuss cultural\, social\, and linguistic roots of our individual\, and shared parenting styles. To preserve our kids’ serenity and sanity we might want to observe our parenting habits through their eyes. In short\, a little awareness goes a long way in helping us accept that doing the best we can is great enough for our kids. \nUnderstanding parenting styles regardless of culture: \n\nAre you an authoritarian\, authoritative\, neglectful\, or permissive parent?\nThe roots of our parenting style?\nFamily experience\, social influence\, and cultural traditions.\nWhat makes it difficult to parent together when gender\, culture\, tradition\, languages differences\, and context get in the way?\nHow does your parenting style shape your child’s sense of self?\nIs it all that bad that we parent differently?\nConclusion: How do we achieve sanity and serenity as bi-cultural parents for our multi-cultural kids?\n\nMichel is a bilingual French-English psychotherapist and owner of Le Kindness Couch\, a private counseling practice in Roswell. A former college instructor at the Ohio State University and the University of Michigan\, he has been a counselor in academia\, hospital environment\, agency setting\, and private practice since 2001. \nHe works with pre-adolescents\, adolescents\, young adults\, and their families. His specialties are anger management\, bipolar disorder\, depression\, social anxiety\, generalized anxiety disorder\, ADHD\, OCD\, self-harming and self-destructive behaviors. Michel works on social skills\, self-concept\, interpersonal effectiveness\, and academic underachievement with adolescents with Asperger Syndrome and who are on the autism spectrum.

SUMMARY:The Next Generation of International Trade Agreements Conference
DESCRIPTION:International trade law is at inflection point. Until quite recently\, international trade agreements appeared to be moving along a relatively predictable trajectory. \nReforms and changes were discussed and negotiated\, but mostly along the margins of a supposed consensus about the general direction of the field. Political events of the past year\, though – Brexit\, the United States’ abandonment of TPP\, calls to renegotiate NAFTA\, accelerating negotiations of RCEP\, and China’s roll out of its One Belt One Road initiative\, among others – have challenged that trajectory and sent policymakers and trade lawyers in search of a new trade compass. \nA new period of negotiation and renegotiation\, however\, is on the horizon. While this is a source for many of anxiety\, it is also an opportunity for progress\, reform\, and creative thinking. \nThis conference will bring together top scholars and practitioners in the field to discuss the directions forward for international agreements. What should be on the table as old agreements are reopened and new ones are negotiated?  What changes are needed to adapt trade agreements to new economic and technological realities?  And how can the next generation of trade agreements respond to globalization’s discontents? \nTo view the schedule\, please click here.

SUMMARY:TONIGHT: Latin American Crossroads Series - Beyond the Border: Mexico on Its Own Terms
DESCRIPTION:  \nA Global Atlanta series sponsored by: \nThanks to President Donald Trump\, Mexico is back in the national dialogue like no time in the past two decades\, but his newfound focus on our neighbor to the south has once again failed to get past the context of competition. \nWhat if we went beyond the border\, past the wrangling over NAFTA\, the Wall and the War on Drugs\, and took a closer look at Mexico’s deep history\, storied culture and growing market? Would we find room to work together on a more equitable and respectful basis? Would Georgia-based companies uncover overlooked opportunities right under their noses? \nGlobal Atlanta will explore these questions and more in Beyond Borders: Mexico on Its Terms\, this second in the Latin American Crossroads series exploring Atlanta as a hub for the hemisphere. \nConfirmed Speakers: \nIntroduction by: Javier Diaz de Leon\, Consul General of Mexico in Atlanta — Update on NAFTA negotiations and current state of US-Mexico relations \n-Luis F Martinez-Obregon\, co-founder\, Zocalo — The story of one of Atlanta’s original Mexican restaurants. \n–Angel Flores\, Senior Vice President\, Wise Foods — How a merger with Mexico’s largest Coke bottler is driving the snack brand’s growth from Atlanta \n–Michelle Routh\, Chief Enterprise Architect\, Coca-Cola Co. — Coca-Cola’s exploration into the heart of Latin American innovation in Mexico City through “The Bridge” incubator \nModerated by: Trevor Williams\, Managing Editor\, reporting on collaboration and competition between the US South and Mexico in the aerospace and automotive sectors \n
