SUMMARY:Global Atlanta 'Export Stories' Report Release and Reception
DESCRIPTION:Let’s face it: Exporting isn’t always easy. Cracking new markets requires guts\, time\, money and a whole new level of attention to detail and commitment to cultural adaptation. \nBut it’s not impossible\, and the proof is right here in our backyard. \nThrough its third annual Export Stories reception and special report [see the 2014 special report]\, Global Atlanta is set to share the firsthand accounts of 20+ exporters from around the metro area who have shaken off fear and embraced the unknown\, overcoming challenges to become more resilient and profitable companies. \nWe’re partnering with the steering committee of the Global Cities Initiative in Atlanta\, which is helping lead the Atlanta Metro Export Challenge\, backed by JPMorgan Chase\, UPS\, and Partnership Gwinnett. \nEarlier this year\, the challenge named 28 local semifinalists who took home $5\,000 in grants toward boosting their overseas sales. They’ll soon be competing in a pitch competition in an effort to win $20\,000 more. \nAt this event\, you’ll be able to network with some of the semifinalists\, hear a few practice pitches and engage in a panel discussion where a few intrepid business leaders will share how they have overcome issues like currency conversion\, cultural snafus\, trade policy uncertainty and more. \nPanel: \n\nJohn Hanger\, CEO\, Car360\nDarlene Huggins\, VP of Business Development\, Dustex\nJoe’ Lloyd\, VP of Marketing\, NanoLumens\nPitch:\nSean Casey\, Owner\, Rotorcorp\nJim Hall\, CEO\, Triatek\nLisa Winton\, Winton Machine \nJennifer Tipping\, MMJ Labs\n\nWine\, beer and light bites will be served. The event is free for exporters and Global Atlanta subscribers\, even those who sign up when registering; $10 for everyone else.

SUMMARY:The Sixth Annual Conference of the Atlanta International Arbitration Society (AtlAS)
DESCRIPTION:The past year has seen the rise of populist nationalism\, skepticism of multilateral trade agreements\, and calls to tighten\, in some ways\, the flow of people across borders – perhaps most visibly in the United States and Europe\, but with varying manifestations in other parts of the world\, as well.  For some\, these developments represent a much-needed course correction to protect their nation’s security and address macroeconomic trends that have hurt working people.  Others see them as harbingers of the demise of the post-World War II global order or worse.  These developments are sparking lively political debate\, but they also raise non-partisan\, practical questions for international business dispute resolution. \n

SUMMARY:How to be – and stay – successful in the U.S. market
DESCRIPTION:Business Breakfast with Factwell\, LLC \nA German-owned company in the U.S. finds out from the newspapers that their contract partner had been involved in a criminal case and had to pay punitive and compensatory damages of several million dollars. One of three counts in Volkswagen’s $4.3 billion guilty-plea was for the crime of obstruction of justice – arising from document destruction based on the advice of internal legal counsel. German companies often limit their due diligence efforts to M&A transactions\, and cry out “data privacy!” when requested to produce comprehensive data and documentation before court. However\, in the U.S.\, a comprehensive and constant collection of information in every phase of every business activity in the market is not only legal\, but an indispensable and essential part of the responsibility of CEOs\, managers\, or executives of any active enterprise in this market. If the rules of data transfer and information exchange are being ignored\, or if the value of intelligence regarding customers\, contract partners\, and other third parties is being underestimated\, companies may suffer not only severe financial losses\, but also reputational damage. \nIn this seminar\, we will:\n-Explain which information you need why and when\n-Provide best practices how to avoid the risk of costly rule violations. \nTopics we will cover:\n-The Power Of Information:\n-E-Discovery\, Big Data and German privacy rules\n-Due Diligence XXL: Do you really know your business partner?\n-Industrial espionage – Is the danger real?\n-Compliance and White Collar Crime\n-U.S. litigation tips and traps
