SUMMARY:Lomir Redn Yiddish!
DESCRIPTION:Join Goethe-Zentrum Atlanta Sunday\, November 8 via Zoom to learn about the Germanic language spoken by the Jewish community around the world: Yiddish! This event is partnered with The William Breman Jewish Heritage Museum in Atlanta. You can learn more about the museum and its programming on its website. \nMany Yiddish words have been adopted by other languages globally and you may even realize you’ve spoken some Yiddish your entire life. Ever called someone a Klutz? Or eaten a delicious bagel? Although there may be much on the surface we are already familiar with\, there is also the deeper and tragic history of how Yiddish nearly went extinct during the Holocaust\, and that even today it is in danger of being forgotten. \nIncredible host Dr. Liliane Kshensky Baxter will share with participants her experience growing up in a Yiddish-speaking household\, the unique linguistics of Yiddish and its connection to German\, and highlight the perseverance of Yiddish throughout history. \nThe virtual event is free to attend\, but attendees must register in advance to receive the Zoom login information.

SUMMARY:Ethical Management of AI: A French-American Dialogue on Privacy\, Trust and Human Oversight in Health and Well-Being
DESCRIPTION:#FranceAtlanta2020 | Artificial intelligence (AI) models are now capable of collecting and analyzing enormously large databases in ways that are challenging fundamental values claimed in Europe and the United States. Throughout their lifecycle\, AI programs and algorithms – which are full of promises of increased productivity\, efficiency\, and quality time; and conceived as an assistant\, a peer\, a manager\, or even as a friend – might be so revolutionary that no one\, regardless of whether they are consumers\, citizens\, operators or stakeholders\, will remain unaffected. Nonetheless\, AI empowers the machine to such a point that it may jeopardize what is to be human compared to a machine\, what it is to have free choice\, and even what it is to play a role in society. France\, the European Union\, and the United States have not yet clearly defined the approaches they will take to address these ethical issues. The governments are\, in 2020\, still considering options to maximize the potential of AI and big data while mitigating ethical dilemmas. \nThis virtual event is free and open to the public. \n**Stay tuned for the registration link! \n  \nThis event is organized by the Georgia Institute of Technology\, the Consulate General of France in Atlanta\, the Emory University Center for Ethics\, the Georgia Tech School of Interactive Computing\, the Université de Nantes\, SKEMA Business School\, and French Tech Raleigh – Research Triangle\, with the support of the Atlanta Office of the Cultural Services of the Embassy of France in the United State and the Office for Science and Technology of the Embassy of France in the United States. \n#FranceAtlanta | Created in 2010 by the Consulate General of France in Atlanta and Georgia Tech\, France-Atlanta is a series of events centered on innovation and designed to foster cooperation between France and the U.S. Southeast. \nDiscover this year’s events☞ https://france-atlanta.org

SUMMARY:Webinar: Doing Business in Emerging Markets
DESCRIPTION:Featuring:\nDr. S. Tamer Cavusgil\, Georgia State University\nDr. Pervez Ghauri\, University of Birmingham\nDr. Leigh Anne Liu\, Georgia State University \nModerated by:\nSebastian van der Vegt\, Untold Communications \nEmerging markets\, rapidly transforming and dynamic economies\, have been the focus of numerous firms in search of growth opportunities over the past four decades. These economies share such common phases of evolution as rapid economic transformation\, market liberalization\, and impressive gains in competitiveness — often accompanied by significant social and political change and urbanization. \nWhile emerging markets\, along with the rest of the world\, experienced one of the most devastating disruptions caused by the global pandemic of 2020\, the phenomenon of rapid economic transformation and the story of emerging markets remain very relevant. Despite having to endure economic shocks\, emerging markets continue to be highly dynamic and full of market potential. \nIn this conversation\, professors Cavusgil\, Ghauri\, and Liu will provide an update on the current state of emerging market growth and transformation. They will also offer their expectations of their future evolution. What policy measures need to be in place to support emerging market multinationals? How should advanced economy multinationals adjust? In the face of global competition for resources and capital\, will emerging market firms be able to deploy new technologies\, sustainable use of resources and collaborative business models? \nHaving just completed the 3rd edition of their book\, Doing Business in Emerging Markets\, Cavusgil\, Ghauri and Liu will also discuss the features in the new edition. Of interest to both practitioners and students of international business\, readers will find a highly analytical treatment of these growth economies in this edition of the book. New to this edition are 13 original cases written by expert scholars on emerging markets. Each case provides a different country context and managerial set of challenges to be analyzed. \nThis webinar will be moderated by Sebastian van der Vegt\, Untold Communications\, who will raise questions of contemporary interest to practitioners and scholars of emerging markets. \nKey takeaways: \n\nWhat is the current significance of emerging markets to the global economy?\nWhat does the future hold for emerging markets?\nWhat are pressing questions for scholarly research on emerging markets?\n\n  \nThis program is FREE and open to all\, but registration is required.
