SUMMARY:The Atlanta Council on International Relations Presents Peace on the Korean Peninsula
DESCRIPTION:Peace on the Korean Peninsula: Can the ROK-US Alliance Defend Against A Threatening Nuclear Shadow? \n( A panel discussion with Introductory Comments by Yoonjoo Park\, Consul General of the Republic of Korea)  \nJune and July of 2023\, will mark the 70th anniversary of the Korean War armistice and subsequent termination of open hostilities. ROK-US mutual defense treaties have guaranteed the peace and the accumulated prosperity of the ROK. Can peace prevail on a peninsula that reflects darkness and enlightenment? \nModerator: Kevin Miller  \nRegistration Deadline : Monday\, June 19 2023

SUMMARY:Global Outlook\, Local Impact: The Transatlantic Potential for Citizen Engagement
DESCRIPTION:The panel discussion on “Global Outlook\, Local Impact: The Transatlantic Potential for Citizen Engagement” will take place on June 26\, 2023\, 11:00am-12:30pm EDT in a hybrid format with on-site participation in Atlanta as well as virtual participation from Berlin and Los Angeles. \nLocation: Franco-German Cultural Center | 233 Peachtree Street NE\, Suite 100\, Atlanta\, GA 30303 \nCities around the world are growing rapidly\, making it even more important to adapt quickly to changing circumstances and develop forward-looking strategies. To counter challenges ranging from climate to inequality to mobility\, cities must be responsive to their citizens’ needs and priorities\, requiring responsible leadership. Two issues are on top of the urban to-do list: Youth empowerment and workforce development. To shape the leaders of tomorrow\, cities need to engage the young generation in decision-making early on. Offering economic opportunities and taking measures to develop a workforce fit for tomorrow’s challenges are necessary. Cities are not in this alone – transatlantic relations offer the ideal framework to cooperate and learn from the experiences of each other. By keeping a global outlook\, cities ensure the local impact of their policies in a sustainable and inclusive way. \nConfirmed speakers include:\n– Paige Alexander (CEO\, The Carter Center)\n– Clyde Higgs (President & CEO\, Atlanta BeltLine Inc.)\n– Vanessa Ibarra (Director\, Mayor’s Office of International & Immigrant Affairs\, City of Atlanta)\n– Anna Roach (Executive Director & CEO\, Atlanta Regional Commission) \nAspen Germany’s “Future Cities – A Transatlantic Townhall Project” brings together a group of urban actors from Berlin\, Los Angeles\, and Atlanta. The project seeks to provide new impetus for the development of the cities we live in and raise awareness for their complexities within the framework of transatlantic discourse.
