SUMMARY:Immigration Seminar: Updates and Early Impacts of Trump Administration
DESCRIPTION:Never before has the issue of immigration been thrust so forcefully onto the forefront of the national public policy agenda. The Trump Administration has already taken unprecedented steps to severely curtail certain categories of immigration\, to ban nationals of numerous countries\, deport huge numbers of immigrants\, and to initiate an extensive review of employment based immigration classifications/visas. Not only the administration has proposed changes but also a significant number of members of Congress\, in both the Senate and the House\, have also proposed significant changes to business and family immigration rules. These changes will affect the full spectrum of employers\, including high-tech\, entertainment\, professional services\, financial technology\, and manufacturing industries. \nThis Executive seminar is being presented for Senior Management and will discuss the scope and impact of these landmark immigration changes\, with specific focus on the anticipated effects on the business community\, and on what options will be available to employers. \nTopics will include: \nExecutive Orders: \n\nEntry Bans and the impact of border enforcement on business and international travel\nIncreased focus on compliance through work site visits and E-verify usage\n\nProposals seeking to: \n\nChange the H1-B visa allocations and cap selection process\nRestrict the use of H-1B\, L-1 and B-1 visas because of alleged impact on US jobs and wages\nLimit practical training programs for F-1 students\nReduce options for green cards\nHow to cope with change and minimize negative impact\n\n\nSponsored By: \nUSA India Business Summit\nFragomen Worldwide\nUS India Business & Research Center\nTaj Hotels\n Bhavya Chaudhry and Associates

SUMMARY:The Trump Effect: The Future of Georgia’s Economic Ties with China and Mexico
DESCRIPTION:If two countries were vilified during last year’s campaign season\, they were China and Mexico. While both have wooed many American factories since the early 1990s\, they’re also two of the state’s top three export destinations\, buying more than $6 billion in Georgia-made goods in 2016. And with a $500 million tire plant in the works\, China is also on the cusp of becoming a major source of foreign manufacturing investment in the state. \nNewly inaugurated President Donald Trump has made clear his intentions to reorient the U.S. trading relationships with both economies\, but will his zero-sum rhetoric translate into new policies? How might changes to NAFTA or a blanket tariff on imported goods impact the state’s outreach to these vital partners? \nFind out at this important conversation hosted by the Cumming-Forsyth Chamber of Commerce and sponsored by the accounting firm of Frazier & Deeter. \nTopics & Speakers are to include: \n\nTrade Trends With China and Mexico – Mary Waters\, Deputy Commissioner\, International Trade\, Georgia Department of Economic Development\nForeign Investment Potential for China and Mexico – Jim Blair\, Managing Director\, Navigator Consulting\nTax Opportunities and Considerations – Mike Whitacre\, partner\, Frazier and Deeter\nThe Southeast U.S. Trade Relationship With Mexico – Javier Díaz de León\, Consul General\, Consulado General de Mexico en Atlanta\n\nModerated by Trevor Williams\, managing editor\, Global Atlanta. \nCost is $15 for Chamber members and $30 for non-members. \nFor more information\, email Robert Long\, vice president of economic development at the Cumming-Forsyth Chamber of Commerce at rlong@cummingforsythchamber.org. \nRegister here.

SUMMARY:Faith and Forced Migration: Muslim Humanitarianism in the Age of ISIS
DESCRIPTION:Join LAMP for a lecture by Dr. Abbas Barzegar\, Assistant Professor of Religious Studies and Co-Director of the Civic Approaches to Conflict Resolution initiative at Georgia State University. Prolonged conflict in the Middle East stemming from political instability and the rise of extremist violence has positioned Muslim aid and development organizations at the nexus of a number of key elements related to conflict resolution and post-conflict stabilization in the short\, medium and long terms. As first-responders with broad and deep grass-roots networks\, Muslim humanitarian groups are uniquely situated to provide relief to the most vulnerable victims of war and forced migration. Unfortunately\, there is a deep mistrust between Muslim NGOs and those based in Western contexts. In partnership with the British Council and The European Commission and through field research\, policy dialogues\, and organizational research\, Dr. Barzegar has explored the reasons behind this impasse and trajectories for resolution over the last two years. In this public talk and discussion\, he will share his findings and insights on how Muslim humanitarian and development agencies are operating in the current political climate of mutual fear and suspicion. This event is free and open to the public. Registration is not required. Co-sponsored with Emory University’s Middle East and South Asian Studies Department\, Graduate Division of Religion\, and the Laney Legacy for Moral Leadership Program at Candler School of Theology. Visitor parking is available in the Peavine Parking Lot\, 29 Eagle Row\, Atlanta\, GA 30322.

SUMMARY:U.S. – Mexico Energy Trade
DESCRIPTION:U.S. and Mexico relations are clearly strained. Blame it on the controversial wall Trump wants to build and his criticism of NAFTA\, but there is a lot more at stake for these neighbors’ in their agendas for economic growth: energy. The council is excited to present “U.S.-Mexico Energy Trade\,” a breakfast discussion on the challenges facing both countries in the midst of an evolving energy market and a dynamic time for trade. Energy trade issues between these two neighbors are not making the headlines as they should. This morning discussion will examine the future of renewable energy sources and the future of U.S.-Mexico energy trade in the midst of growing tension between the two states\, as well as the role that Georgia plays in this historic and critical partnership that is at risk.
