This topic discusses the ways ecosystems can be a tool for effective climate action and the ways in which we protect them. \n\n\n\n\nEnvironmental Justice & Climate Justice\n\n\nClimate change is a human and civil rights issue. Environmental injustice\, including climate change\, disproportionately affects communities of color and low-income communities. The Environmental Justice and Climate Justice topic incorporates anti-racism as an essential component of effective climate action while discussing the Black Lives Matter movement and global equality issues through the lens of climate change. \n\n\n\n\nCOVID-19 & Green Recovery\n\n\nThe COVID-19 pandemic has fundamentally altered life on a global scale\, underscoring inequality and illustrating vulnerability to climate change. The COVID-19 and Green Recovery topic explores how equity and climate action can be incorporated into economic and societal COVID-19 recovery plans\, with emphasis on plans currently being enacted in Europe.

SUMMARY:How to Engage Our Youth and Educators in International Education and Collaboration in a COVID-19 World
DESCRIPTION:The world has been turned upside down by the global pandemic and we have been asked to stay home and safe plus focus on local efforts to minimize the effects of COVID-19. At the same time\, the global nature of the pandemic has shown us that we must work together to develop and launch a vaccine and learn from each other about the prevention and management of a pandemic. Furthermore\, we are experiencing protests calling for racial equality while others are pushing for putting nationalistic needs first. With a global pandemic plus social and economic unrest around us\, what will we teach the students in Georgia about history\, biology\, social justice\, and globalization? \nHow do we ensure that educational institutions have access to faculty and students from all over the world and global collaboration and engagement continue? What are the challenges and opportunities of global understanding and learning under the current travel\, visa\, and political restrictions? \nWhat are the current challenges and opportunities in international education in Georgia’s school system? Is education the answer to world peace and a pandemic-free world? These questions and much more will be answered during this webinar.

SUMMARY:Mobility of the Future
DESCRIPTION:  \nJoin the FACC-DFW & FACC-ATL in partnership with Advancial\nfor a webinar on The Future of Mobility.  \nWhat challenges and opportunities are present for the future of corporate mobility? \nFor many organizations\, the pressure to compete effectively has led to an increase in the size and complexity of their global workforce\, making international talent strategy management an imperative for business leaders.  Global mobility is becoming more costly\, complex\, and risky\, yet few organizations are prepared to address the challenges.  This dynamic has accelerated due to the structural shift in where people work as a result of the 2020 pandemic. \nOur guest speaker Nathan Thompson\, Managing Director of Global Mobility\, KPMG will discuss why and how companies should develop strategies to proactively manage their globally mobile workforce\, including Work From Anywhere\, and achieving their business outcomes into the future. \n***As a courtesy\, this program is open and free for members and non-members\nbut registration is required.*** \n  \nMeet the Speaker  \n \nNathan is a Managing Director for Global Mobility Services in KPMG’s Atlanta office. He has over 20 years of experience in internal international mobility programs\, project and program management\, management consulting\, and customer relationship management. Nathan has significant experience in developing a vision for Future of Mobility\, leading transformative business strategy\, and developing product offerings. He also is a thought leader in providing actionable insights that have direct and measurable impacts on key business outcomes. \n

SUMMARY:US-China Relations: "The Quarreling Couple That Still Needs to Dance Together"
DESCRIPTION:The Chinese Globalization Association and SFU’s Jack Austin Center for Asia Pacific Business Studies are pleased to present a keynote speech by a distinguished Professor of Management and Global Business\, Farok J. Contractor. In this keynote speech\, Farok J. Contractor will explore the potential for economic collaboration between China and the United States. \nThe talk will examine the future of the US-China relationship and policy dilemmas between these two global powers. \nThe webinar will also feature Eric Werker\, William Saywell Professor at the Beedie School of Business at Simon Fraser University\, as the discussant. \nThe webinar will be co-moderated by Jing Li\, the Co-Director of the Jack Austin Centre for Asia Pacific Business Studies of SFU’s Beedie School of Business\, and by John R. McIntyre\, founding Director of the Georgia Tech Center for International Business Education and Research (CIBER). \n  \nPresentation Abstract\nDespite enormous economic complementarities and synergies between the US and China\, the current relationship is akin to a quarreling couple that still needs each other because of the 639 billion in bilateral trade in goods and services\, and the “Direct Investment Position” of the two countries combined exceeding $ 130 billion\, in 2019. \nPutting aside nationalism and ambitions – whether political or corporate – there is no structural or fundamental reason why the two economies should not cooperate on a broad range of issues and sectors\, ranging from healthcare to green energy to vehicles\, for mutual benefit. \nHowever\, because of psychosomatic anti-globalization reactions in the US after 2016\, and in China an exaggerated sense of nationalism and nursing 178-year-old grievances that bear little relevance to the present day\, the two largest economies are now in an artificial state of tension. \nThis presentation will focus on the potential future relationship and policy dilemmas. Here are just two examples: China’s portraying itself as the new champion of globalization which then also requires its grudging acceptance of universally accepted rules. For the US\, one policy dilemma is how to maintain an open-innovation environment while dealing with the real and imagined ghosts of intellectual asset theft. But there remain the vast majority of areas\, sectors\, and subjects on which the two biggest economies can cooperate\, for mutual benefit. \n  \nSpeaker Bio \nFarok J. Contractor (Ph.D.) is a Distinguished Professor of Management and Global Business at Rutgers Business School\, a Fellow of the Academy of International Business (AIB)\, and author of ten books and over 150 scholarly articles. He is the President; Elect of AIB and will serve a three-year term on the Board\, assuming the presidency in 2021. He has taught courses and seminars in China over 20 times. He holds a Ph.D. (Managerial Science and Applied Economics) and an M.B.A. from the Wharton School\, as well as two engineering degrees M.S. (Michigan)\, and B.S. (Bombay). Farok Contractor’s research focuses on key issues in International Business\, such as corporate alliances\, outsourcing and offshoring\, valuation of intangible assets\, the technology transfer process\, licensing\, and foreign direct investment. His papers and books have been cited more than 12\,000 times and is among the top-ranked contributors of scholarly papers in the field. Farok has chaired or been on the supervisory committees of 19 doctoral dissertations. He has taught at the Wharton School\, Copenhagen Business School\, Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy\, Tufts University\, Nanyang Technological University\, Indian Institutes of Management (IIM; Ahmedabad and Calcutta)\, Indian Institute of Foreign Trade\, XLRI (India)\, Rutgers business programs in Beijing and Shanghai\, Lubin School of Business\, and EDHEC in France\, and conducted executive seminars on four continents. He served Rutgers as Department Chair\, CIBER (Center for International Business Education and Research) Research Director\, Ph.D. program coordinator\, and other key school and university initiatives. Farok’s blog for managers\, students\, policymakers\, and educated laypeople covering International Business issues at https://globalbusiness.blog has been read by viewers in 171 countries.

SUMMARY:France-Atlanta: Machines of Loving Graces\, Creation and Creativity Between Humans and Machines
DESCRIPTION:  \n#FranceAtlanta2020 | Join us for a conversation between leading experts on artistic creation and collaboration between humans and machines. \n“All Watched Over by Machines of Loving Grace” is a 1967 poem by Richard Brautigan that describes the peaceful and harmonious cohabitation of humans and computers. Fifty years later – following the technological revolutions brought about by the internet\, big data\, cloud computing\, and deep learning – Brautigan’s vision resonates singularly. It compels us to rethink our interactions with machines\, even in regard to the intimate act of artistic creation. In collaboration with its American partners\, France’s Institute for Research and Coordination in Acoustics/Music (IRCAM) invites participants to discover some remarkable examples of possible artistic relationships between humans and computers during two seminars featuring researchers and artists who are building this new deal. \nOct 14: “Working Creatively with Machines”\nParticipants :\n– Carmine Cella (CNMAT – CU Berkeley)\n– Rémy Mignot (IRCAM)\n– Nicolas Obin (Sorbonne Université & IRCAM)\n– Alex Ruthman (New York University)\n– Grace Leslie (Georgia Tech) \nOct 15: “Performances with Machines”\nParticipants:\n– Jérôme Nika and/or Gérard Assayag (IRCAM)\n– Benjamin Levy (IRCAM)\n– Philippe Esling (Sorbonne University & IRCAM)\n– Jason Freeman (Georgia Tech) \nThis virtual event is free and open to the public.\n**Stay tuned for the event link. \nThis event is organized by IRCAM – the Institute for Research and Coordination in Acoustics/Music – and the STMS lab (The French National Centre for Scientific Research\, the Ministry of Culture and Sorbonne University)\, in collaboration with Georgia Tech’s School of Music\, NYU Steinhardt – Music Education\, the UC Berkeley Center for New Music and Audio Technologies\, and the Atlanta Office of the Cultural Services of the Embassy of France in the United States. \n#FranceAtlanta | Created in 2010 by the Consulate General of France in Atlanta and Georgia Tech\, France-Atlanta is a series of events centered on innovation and designed to foster cooperation between France and the U.S. Southeast. \nDiscover this year’s events☞ https://france-atlanta.org

SUMMARY:International Business Webinar Series: Leadership in Global Companies in Times of Pandemic
DESCRIPTION:The Coronavirus pandemic and the ensuing global recession have created a most formidable disruption for business. Do they also imply a different type of leadership? Commentators\, consultants\, and executives are calling for new imperatives in setting goals\, revisiting operating models\, leadership attributes\, embracing “stakeholder capitalism” and so on. \nHear what two senior leaders with extensive experience at The Coca-Cola Company — one of the most global companies in the world — have to say about the impact of the pandemic on leadership. Galya Molinas is President of the Mexico business unit of The Coca-Cola Company. First\, how is this pandemic different from other crises you have faced before\, how is it not so different? Second\, how can its impact on business be described? SUMMARY:Webinar: Cyber and the Coming Remote Work Revolution
DESCRIPTION:Cyber Growth Leader Thomas Finan will present a webinar on:\n“AFTER COVID-19: CYBER AND THE COMING REMOTE WORK REVOLUTION” \nAbout the Webinar: \nIn the wake of COVID-19\, the percentage of full-time employees working permanently from home will expand 733% over pre-pandemic levels.  Cybercriminals are shifting their tactics accordingly\, targeting often less-than-secure remote worksites to gain quick access to corporate systems.  To protect themselves\, organizations must squarely address the human element of cyber risk.  Tom Finan of Willis Towers Watson will discuss how CISOs and HR leaders can collaborate to address four key aspects of employee experience that are the foundation of more effective cyber risk cultures.  In so doing\, they can help ensure their organizations not only survive a cyber incident but also thrive in its aftermath. \nAbout Thomas Finan: \nTom Finan is a Cyber Growth Leader within Willis Towers Watson’s FINEX Cyber/E&O Practice. In this role\, Tom advances the company’s integrated approach to cybersecurity across all aspects of people\, capital\, and technology risk. Tom previously worked as the Chief Strategy Officer of Ark Network Security Solutions. He also served as Senior Cybersecurity Strategist and Counsel with the Department of Homeland Security’s National Protection and Programs Directorate. While at DHS\, Tom established and led the agency’s cybersecurity insurance initiative in support of implementation of Executive Order 13636\, “Improving Critical Infrastructure Cybersecurity.” To advance that effort\, he created DHS’ Cyber Incident Data and Analysis Working Group (CIDAWG)\, a private-public engagement forum that examined how a cyber incident data repository could help meet the information and analysis requirements of the insurance industry and technical cybersecurity professionals. \nTom previously served as the Staff Director and Counsel for the Subcommittee on Intelligence\, Information Sharing and Terrorism Risk Assessment with the U.S. House Committee on Homeland Security. During his time with the Committee\, he authored two major reports that informed many of the statutory provisions that he helped develop for Title V of the Implementing Recommendations of the 9/11 Commission Act of 2007 (P.L. 110-53) and the Reducing Over-Classification Act of 2010 (P.L. 111-258). Tom is a former Assistant General Counsel at the FBI. He has also worked in private litigation practice. \nTom earned his J.D. from the University of Minnesota Law School and B.A. from the University of Virginia.
