SUMMARY:Movie Night | Jappeloup
DESCRIPTION:Come and join a movie night in Midtown. Doors open at 6:30 PM. Light refreshments will be provided! \nThis film is based on the true story of Pierre Durand and Seoul Olympics-winning horse Jappeloup. From competition to competition\, the duo progressed and took the lead in the world of horseback riding. \nPresented in French with English subtitles. \nDirector: Christian Duguay\nCasting: Guillaume Canet\, Marina Hands\, Daniel Auteuil\, Lou de Laâge\nDuration: 110’\nGenre: Drama\, Biopic

SUMMARY:The New Face of France\, Reception + Discussion
DESCRIPTION:Networking Reception: 6:30 p.m.\nDiscussion: 7:00 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. \nFeaturing: \n\nLouis de Corail\, Consul General of France in Atlanta\nFrancois Bresson\, Head of Finance Americas of Orange Business Services\n\nFrance is tired of being the sidekick of Europe. With Emmanuel Macron assuming the presidency\, and his new party En Marche gaining 350 out of 577 seats in the National Assembly\, the French people have given Macron more power than any recent president. Leadership in the West is up for grabs\, and Macron is not shying away in the slightest. Will the mantel of European leadership be assumed by a renewed Franco-German alliance? Is the sweeping victory of En Marche a rebuke of the European Project\, or a sign of unity and determination across the continent? Is the embrace of an outsider’s party a rejection of far-right populism? This French government does not hesitate to shake things up. Louis de Corail\, the Consul General of France in Atlanta\, and Francois Bresson\, Head of Finance Americas of Orange Business Services\, will assess the New Face of France. \nView the program flyer

SUMMARY:Huff Harrington Celebrates Bastille Day with French Inspired Art and Vintage Paintings
DESCRIPTION:Huff Harrington Fine Art celebrates all things French at its annual Bastille Day exhibit with an opening reception on Friday\, July 14th from 6 p.m. to 8 pm. The show will run through Saturday\, July 29th. Guests will enjoy light bites\, and plenty of red\, white and rose. Paintings from the gallery’s French artists will hang side-by-side with work by American painters inspired by the French joie d’esprit. As only the French can do\, it’s a perfect mix of styles – abstract\, representational and impressionist with subjects varying from landscapes\, still-lifes\, and florals to edgy portraits of waiters caught unawares or a trio enjoying a glass of wine at a quintessential French café.\nHuff Harrington Fine Art also introduces Heritage\, a collection of vintage and antique art that Ann Huff and Meg Harrington have sourced during their buying trips to France.Whether they’re antique\, vintage or just plain old\, these crusty paintings are always so soulful and compelling\, says Huff. While sometimes we’re not quite sure of their provenance\, we find them utterly irresistible – and we love the touch of humanity they add to a collection.Participating artists include Pascal Bouterin\, Lyliane Coiffard\, Amy Dixon\, Helen Farson\, Nancy Franke\, Christian Nepo\, Lesley Powell\, Laura Lacambra Shubert\, James Richards\, Sarah Robertson and Andree Thobaty.\nHuff Harrington Fine Art is located at 4240 Rickenbacker Drive\, Atlanta\, GA 30342. The gallery is conveniently located off Roswell Road in Buckhead\, adjacent to the Chastain Square Shopping Center. More information is available at www.huffharrington.com or by calling (404) 257-0511. Huff Harrington Fine Art is open Monday through Saturday from10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and by appointment.

SUMMARY:Negotiating with Guerrillas: A Bumpy Peace for Colombia
DESCRIPTION:Complimentary admission. Registration required. \nFEATURING: Juan Fernando Cristo\, former Colombian Minister of Interior who played a key role in the peace deal; now\, he is running for president. \nColombia\, after years of negotiations\, signed a peace agreement with the FARC guerrillas who had waged war against the government and civilian population for decades. Reaching agreement with the FARC was one thing. Implementing the agreement is another. Not only must the guerrillas disarm\, the government must work to integrate into civilian society people who have no job skills except waging war. The civilian population is extremely suspicious of the peace agreement and of the intentions of the disarmed guerrillas who were\, until a few months ago\, trying to kill them. As Minister of Interior (equivalent of Homeland Security Secretary in the US)\, Juan Fernando Cristo played a key role in the negotiations. He resigned on May 25 and announced he was running for president. The elections are in May 2018.
