Doors open at 6:30PM and seating will be on first-come-first-serve basis. \nAbout the film: \nCora\, a 19-year-old woman\, works for her family in Bucco\, a village whose livelihood depends on the tourism of Christians who believe in the apparitions of the Virgin Mary. Michele\, Cora’s father\, organises the important celebration of the Virgin of Bucco\, an annual event that attracts numerous pilgrims. But the arrival of a mysterious man\, Saverio\, will gradually undermine the harmony in the “holy” village\, with the revelation of a crime committed by the villagers 40 years earlier\, whose principal instigator was Cora’s father. \nAbout the Settimana della Lingua Italiana nel Mondo: \nThe “Week of the Italian Language in the World”\, now in its 18th edition\, will run from Oct. 15 to 21\, 2018. This event\, which takes place in the third week of October each year\, is central to the promotion of the Italian language and culture abroad.

Margriet will be giving an Artist Talk on Contrasting the Dutch artistic tradition of sober formalism with the luxurious splendor of the Baroque\, Margriet Smulders’ painterly and often almost abstract floral still life photography looks for beauty in disorder. Smulders has had multiple international solo exhibitions. Her work belongs to many international public and private collections including\, The National Library of France in Paris\, Van Gogh Huis in Zundert\, Netherlands\, Valkhof Museum in Nijmegen\, Netherlands\, and multiple international Dutch Embassies. She has had five monographs of work published\, and was recently commissioned to create a large three panel ceiling installation that spans 85 by 197 feet for the shopping center\, Emsgalerie\, in Rheine\, Germany. A selection of her works\, “Holy Disorder” is currently on view at Spalding Nix Fine Art as a part of Atlanta Celebrates Photography.

DESCRIPTION:Get a taste of Hungary without ever leaving Atlanta! In addition to lots of Hungarian food and beverages\, we will feature Eletfa\, a Hungarian folk band with dancing\, as well as the HunArchers\, who showcase traditional archery techniques and also allow others a chance to shoot a few arrows. Food\, drink\, music\, dance and archery — what could be better? \nAdmission is free\, though donations are gratefully accepted. Raffle prizes are awarded every hour. The event is held rain or shine. SUMMARY:2018 Middelthon-Candler Gala
DESCRIPTION:The inaugural Middelthon-Candler Gala was held when the Millennium Gate Museum (The Gate) opened in 2008. Matthew Middelthon\, a descendant of Coca-Cola founder Asa G. Candler\, established the Middelthon-Candler Peace\, Justice\, and Millennium Gate Prizes to continue the family’s stewardship of the state of Georgia. All proceeds from the gala are used to further the mission of The Gate and The National Monuments Foundation. \nThe National Monuments Foundation is based in Georgia\, one of 13 original British colonies. Denmark was among the first to establish diplomatic relations with Georgia\, as well as a Consul General in Savannah in 1801. It is our desire to raise the standard of this international prize and partner with Denmark\, Danish industry\, and Danish society at large\, Scandinavia being a region noted for recognizing great human accomplishment. Mr. Middelthon requested that as his Candler family name is better known globally as the founders of Coca-Cola\, we now adapt the prize name to Candler Peace\, Justice\, and Millennium Gate Prizes. \n\n\n\n\nMillennium Gate Prize Categories: \nPeace Prize: Honors leadership in the promotion of fraternity between peoples and nations. \nJustice Prize: Honors leadership in effecting positive social change. \nMillennium Gate Prize: Honors excellence in the arts\, sciences\, or business. \n\n\n\n\n
