SUMMARY:Canadian Power Generation Sector - Civil Nuclear Present and Future
DESCRIPTION:Learn about upcoming business opportunities in the sector\, the COVID-19 impact and the expected rebound\, and learn about tools and resources to support your company’s market entry to Canada directly from the experts! \nCanada is the biggest and most attractive export market for U.S. The second largest economy in North America\, Canada is the 10th largest economy in the world and has a steady economic growth. Per our NAFTA (North America Free Trade Agreement) almost all U.S. products enter the Canadian market duty free. \nCanada has a strong infrastructure and manufacturing sector supported by an electrical power system with approximately 135 GW installed capacity of power generation. This includes also a fleet of 19 operational nuclear reactor units which provide approximately 15% of the generated electricity. A favorable business climate and regulatory environment secure an attractive market very similar to U.S. \nThe Government of Canada oversees the policy alignments while the Provincial Governments have full ownership of the regulatory environment of the electrical system for the respective Province. \nCanada is in an approximately $20 billion investment program for refurbishment of the nuclear reactors fleet\, over the next 10 years. \nThe nuclear power generation is supported by the federal Government which started also a Small Modular Reactors Program. The Province of Ontario has all the Canadian active nuclear reactors which provide approximately 60% of the generated electricity in the province. OPG (Ontario Power Generation) is a Crown Corporation (owned by the Government of Ontario\, but by law functioning based on commercial legislation without Government interference). OPG is the owner of the nuclear reactors and the main operator. OPG started a refurbishment program to extend the life of the reactors it operates\, and the Provincial Government committed $10 Billion for it. In addition\, OPG has also a project to develop Small Modular Reactors at a site for which already has a license for nuclear operations. \nThe other operator in the province\, Bruce Power\, has 8 nuclear reactors under operation and is also refurbishing them for life extension in a secured investment of another $10 Billion. \nThe Canadian civil nuclear sector developments represent possible attractive procurement opportunities for U.S. exporters.

SUMMARY:Agribusiness Opportunities in Brazil
DESCRIPTION:Agribusiness is one of Brazil’s largest economic sectors. It is well diversified which helps ensure the country is largely self-sufficient in food. In 2019\, Brazilian agribusiness increased 3.8%\, and it was responsible for 21% of Brazil’ s GDP. It is estimated that the sector represents 43% of Brazilian exports (or US$97 billion)\, and it employs nearly 40% of Brazil’s workforce. \nBrazil is a major producer\, consumer\, and exporter of a wide range of agricultural products. The country is a large\, dynamic\, and rapidly growing market for agricultural equipment. This growth is driven by an extensive commercial farming sector that is itself a major global exporter of agricultural commodities\, such as soybeans\, coffee\, sugar\, corn\, meat and orange juice. \nThe estimated volume of US agricultural equipment exports to Brazil in 2019 was worth US$476 million\, including parts\, components\, implements\, and agricultural machinery. It increased annually at a rate of more than 15% from 2015 through 2019. Equipment for producing and harvesting grain\, oil seeds\, and other commodity row crops represented nearly 50% of total exports to Brazil in 2019\, worth US$239 million. Parts and components account for nearly 48% of all agricultural exports\, worth US$228 million. US agricultural equipment exports to the fresh produce sector was US$15 million in 2019\, and livestock and poultry equipment accounted for nearly one percent of total exports worth US$5 million. \nThe fundamentals of Brazil’s agricultural economy remain strong and the country will remain a major market for U.S. agricultural equipment. \n\nLargest market for agricultural machinery in Latin America.\n4th top market for U.S. agricultural machinery exports (2019).\nBrazil is a major global exporter of agricultural commodities\, especially soybeans\, coffee\, sugar\, corn\, orange juice\, and animal protein.\nGrain harvest 2018/2019 was 242 million metric tons in 60 million hectares. Estimated grain harvest 2019/2020: 252 million tons in 65 million hectares.\nPlanted area can still be largely increased.\nTemperate climate\, world’s largest freshwater reserves\, excellent quality and diversity of soils and agro-ecological systems.\nSeveral global manufacturers of agricultural machinery also have large factories in Brazil\, including John Deere\, AGCO\, Argo (Landini)\, Case NH\, Caterpillar. These local manufacturers represent a major opportunity for suppliers of parts and components as OEM and for the after sales market.\nImport tariffs are normally high in Brazil. Best prospects are for machines and components that do not have a similar manufactured in Brazil\, and therefore have lower import tariffs.\n\nLearn about upcoming business opportunities in the sector\, understand the latest developments in the environment\, and learn about tools and resources to support your company’s market entry to Brazil directly from the experts!

SUMMARY:The ICT Ecosystem in Ecuador - Challenges and Opportunities
DESCRIPTION:Ecuador\, a small South American market with a population of 17 million people\, is predominantly a cash economy. The Ecuadorian government\, however\, has repeatedly expressed interest in developing digital opportunities for the country\, emphasizing that increases in internet access and provision of digital services will create efficiencies and increase productivity. \nThe digital economy in 2018 accounted for $1.286 billion of Ecuador’s GDP (1.2 percent)\, which doubled that of 2017. Even with such a large increase in provision of digital services\, Ecuador still lags well behind stronger digital economies in South America. Only sixty-nine percent of the Ecuadorian population has ever purchased something on the Internet. This trend is partly due to low (but increasing) internet penetration rates but also due to the high cost of computers\, cell phones\, and devices and especially the low penetration of banking services. \nThe Ecuadorian government eliminated tariffs in October 2019 on cellphones\, computers\, tablets and laptops that had ranged from 10 to 15 percent. The Ministry of Telecommunications is expected to put out tenders for the deployment of 4G and 5G in the next two years. There are many opportunities in the ICT arena in Ecuador\, as the ecosystem is in development. \nEcuador is back on the radar of U.S. companies with opportunities in ICT. \n\nEcuador has adopted a policy of gradual trade openness and has expressed its intention to negotiate trade agreements with the Pacific Alliance and the United States.\nAs part of its economic reform strategy\, the Moreno administration has lowered import tariffs on numerous items\, particularly intermediate goods and electronics\, to improve Ecuador’s economic competitiveness.\nThe United States is Ecuador’s top trading partner\, accounting for 30 percent of its exports ($6.7 billion)\, and 23 percent of its imports ($5.0 billion) in 2019 (Ecuadorian Central Bank stats).\nBest ICT Prospects: Cybersecurity\, payment gateways\, online banking\, application and web development\, education in digital economy\, E-commerce\, banking intermediaries\, digital marketing\, value-chain applications\, ITC consulting\, software\, CAD\, the Internet of Things\, AI\, smart cities\, ICT and Telecom Equipment\n\nLearn about the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) ecosystem in Ecuador\, review the current situation and highlight best prospects.

SUMMARY:Immigration & Travel Ban: Time Out!
DESCRIPTION:In partnership with the attorneys Glenn Fogle and David Lunel. \nPART 1: The last Presidential Proclamation and its consequences\non your immigration status \nOn June 22\, 2020\, Donald Trump issued a new Proclamation suspending entry of “aliens who present a risk to the U.S. labor market following the Coronavirus outbreak”. This proclamation is not only poorly drafted but also places uncertainty on the status of many immigrants and companies. President Trump justified that proclamation arguing that “American workers compete against foreign nationals for jobs in every sector of our economy\,” and that amid the economic troubles created by the pandemic\, work visas including the H-1B “pose an unusual threat to the employment of American workers.”\nThis is not the first time that this administration is trying to negatively impact the immigration process of foreign workers. However\, this last proclamation has already had devastating consequences for international companies\, which are now starting\nto get into uncharted waters.\n\nPART 2: The last updates to enter any country of the Schengen Area:\nwhat to expect this summer?  \n\nU.S. citizens are not required to obtain a Schengen visa in order to enter any member country of the Schengen Area for tourism or business purposes. However\, the travel restrictions imposed worldwide because of the Coronavirus pandemic already affected the entry of many U.S. citizens in Europe. What are the last updates for this summer for U.S. residents?\n\nThe presentation will be followed by a Q&A session. Please email your questions in advance at julie@facc-atlanta.com.\n\n\n\n\n\nAs a courtesy\, this program is free and open to all\, but registration is required. \n\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Conversations with Master Teachers: Emotional Design Thinking
DESCRIPTION:Emotions are at the heart of what it means to be humans\, and we know they play a critical role in students’ learning. The research results are clear. They show students’ emotions affect their attention and memory\, which together determine their ability to learn. Educators around the world are starting to realize that by attending to their students’ emotions\, they can improve their overall well-being but also foster their motivation to learn. \nThis webinar will present the case for a student-centered design in IB education. Through practical examples\, Master Teachers will explain why successful IB courses should include not only the teaching of relevant theory in the field but also addressing students’ feelings during the learning experience. \nAt the end of this program\, participants will: \n\nUnderstand how emotions affect students’ learning performance.\nLearn how to implement learning rituals to help students showing poor levels of engagement.\nAnalyze how to use an  “Emotional Design Thinking Framework ” to formulate successful student-centered learning experiences.\nLearn some practical examples of how leading IB educators reduce overwhelming anxiety and boredom in the classroom while promoting content mastery.\n\nFeaturing: \nDr. Dina Frutos-Bencze\, Saint Anselm College \nDr. Erica Piros Kovacs\, Indiana University \nDr. E. Fernando Doria\, Georgia State University \nDr. Ilke Kardes\, Valdosta State University
