SUMMARY:Brazil Inbound Trade Mission
DESCRIPTION:Join GDEcD and SUSTA for pre-arranged one-on-one meetings with key buyers\, importers\, distributors and brokers from Brazil\, South Africa and Taiwan. This event is held in conjunction with the Americas Food and Beverage Show. \nBrazil is one of the leading economies in Latin America and in the world (7thlargest). Previous stages of economic growth and development have allowed for the expansion of its middle class. Approximately more than 40% of Brazil’s population is considered middle class and about 16 million are high-end consumers. Brazil is divided into five regions and the Southeastern region is the wealthiest one (including Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro among other cities)\, 55% of the country’s GDP concentrates in this region. \nAs Brazilians change their tastes and consumption habits\, this opens up new opportunities for US suppliers. In addition\, the trade relationship with Brazil is improving. For example\, US beef exports are back in Brazil after a 13 year long absence. Exchange rates between the Brazilian Real and the USD are improving from 2016\, in other words the dollar is not as strong compared to the Real\, a favorable condition when it comes to consumers’ price sensitivity. Register with SUSTA for the Inbound Trade Mission and connect with select Brazilian buyers. \nIndustry Focus\nIngredient\, Natural/Health\, Pet Food and Products\, Retail Products

SUMMARY:South Africa Inbound Trade Mission
DESCRIPTION:Join GDEcD and SUSTA for pre-arranged one-on-one meetings with key buyers\, importers\, distributors and brokers from Brazil\, South Africa and Taiwan. This event is held in conjunction with the Americas Food and Beverage Show. \nSouth Africa\, with a population of approximately 54 million people\, has a market-oriented economy\, well-developed infrastructure\, and a growing consumer demand for value-added foods. It is highly diversified and self-sufficient in primary foods\, except for wheat\, oilseeds\, and rice\, and has a well-developed processed food sector and competitive horticulture sector. South Africa is a net exporter of agricultural\, fish\, and forestry products\, exporting approximately $67 billion in 2015\, down from $91 billion in 2014. However\, limitations in some of South Africa’s agro-processing sectors combined with increasing consumer demand\, has driven import growth for consumer-oriented foods/beverages. \nIndustry Focus\nFood Service Products\, Ingredient\, Natural/Health\, Organic\, Retail Products

SUMMARY:DARKTOWN: Catching a Killer in 1948 Atlanta
DESCRIPTION:DARKTOWN: Catching a Killer in 1948 Atlanta\, “the latest & best in crime fiction”- The New York Times \nThe New York Times’ review of DARKTOWN says it all: “stand back and watch a white cop open an investigation in a black neighborhood in Atlanta\, circa 1948.”  You do not want to miss this fascinating discussion about how the ripples of Atlanta’s segregationist history shape the rising social movements of our time. \nIn 1948\, eight men became the first African American officers in the Atlanta police department.  Despite their badges\, they could not arrest white suspects\, drive squad cars\, or enter the police headquarters.  This is the backdrop for Darktown: A Novel in which two white police officers refuse to investigate the murder of a black woman. \nAward winning author Thomas Mullen\, who lives near downtown Atlanta\, and the Dean of the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts at Georgia Institute of Technology and Council Board Member\, Dr. Jacqueline Royster\, will discuss the novel’s connections to Atlanta’s history linking the conflicts in the book – police violence\, racism\, segregation\, and the role of women – with current economic segregation\, and the #BlackLivesMatter and #MeToo movements. \nDarktown – Catching a Killer in 1948 Atlanta

SUMMARY:ACIR Presents Ms. Peri Lynne Johnson\, IAEA Legal Advisor\, on Nuclear Safeguards and Nuclear Security
DESCRIPTION:  \nACIR is honored to host Ms. Peri Lynne Johnson\, Legal Advisor and Director of the IAEA Office of Legal Affairs\, who will speak on the topic\, “Nuclear Safeguards and Nuclear Security: Keeping the Genie in the Bottle.” \n  \nHonored guests are to include: \n\nFrank Ginn\, Georgia State Senator for the 47th District\nDon Parsons\, Georgia State Representative for the 44th District\nLauren McDonald\, Chair\, Georgia Public Service Commission\n\nHeadquartered in Vienna\, Austria and established in 1957\, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) seeks to promote the peaceful use of nuclear energy\, and to inhibit its use for any military purpose\, including nuclear weapons. Though established independently of the United Nations through its own international treaty\, the IAEA reports to both the General Assembly and the Security Council. \nThe IAEA is described as having three main missions: promoting the peaceful uses of nuclear energy by its member states\, implementing safeguards to verify that nuclear energy is not used for military purposes\, and promoting high standards for nuclear safety. \nThe Chernobyl disaster was a major wake-up call for the international community. With the end of the Cold War\, the break-up of the Soviet Union\, and the breakdown in nuclear safeguards\, the disposition of fissile materials added yet another dimension to concerns about nuclear safety and security\, as has the Fukushima nuclear disaster and nuclear developments in Iran and North Korea. Also of keen concern have been attempts by terrorist organizations to acquire nuclear weapons. Come listen to Peri Lynne Johnson\, IAEA Legal Advisor\, address the complexities IAEA confronts and its major concerns as it attempts to ensure and enhance nuclear safety and security. \nMs. Johnson joined the Office of Legal Affairs of the IAEA in January 2011. Previously\, Ms. Johnson served as the Director of the Legal Support Office\, Bureau of Management\, of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). In this capacity\, Ms. Johnson provided legal advice to the UNDP Administrator\, Associate Administrator\, Senior Managers at headquarters and Resident Representatives in field offices around the globe\, as well as to the UNDP-Affiliated Funds of the Capital Development Fund (UNCDF)\, the UN Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM now UN Women) and the UN Volunteers Programme (UNV). \nMs. Johnson earned her B.A. in French Literature (with a focus in Government and International Relations)\, with distinction in all subjects\, from Cornell University in Ithaca\, New York\, USA in 1988\, and her Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School in Cambridge\, Massachusetts\, USA\, in 1991.

SUMMARY:Exploring Cultures through the Lens of Film
