SUMMARY:Promoting America: Diplomacy in the Digital Age
DESCRIPTION:Featuring:\n\n\nAmbassador Michael Hammer\, Deputy Commandant\, National Defense University\, former U.S. Ambassador to Chile\n\nThe rules of diplomacy were invented by the French in the days of sailing ships and quill pens. Now\, instantaneous communications and social media enable foreign ministers and presidents to deal with each other without their bureaucracies and embassies getting the way. Social media puts diplomats in direct contact with the citizens of the countries where they are stationed. \n\n\nDoes digital diplomacy make traditional diplomacy irrelevant? \n\n\nCurrently the Deputy Commandant at the National Defense University\,Ambassador Michael Hammer is a career Foreign Service Officer who has had multiple postings in Europe and Latin America\, including as Ambassador to Chile. In Chile\, Ambassador Hammer and his embassy staff created an impressive digital presence. As Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs at the Department of State\, he pushed the hidebound bureaucrats into cutting-edge digital diplomacy. Hammer will discuss the tension between digital diplomacy and striped-pants diplomacy. \n\nMembers $10 | Non-members $20 | Member code: membrief17

SUMMARY:Managing Sustainability and Food Security in Conflict Regions
DESCRIPTION:Food insecurity is both a cause and consequence of conflict. Managing food insecurity poses increasing challenges to the international development community.  Food insecurity as a cause of conflict is often linked to international market dynamics\, which can send shock waves across continents\, as the world experienced during the 2007/2008 global food price crisis. Food insecurity as a consequence of conflict is related to the destruction\, disruption\, and diversion of productive resources during conflict. The purpose of this workshop is to generate greater awareness of the importance and challenges of food security management as a conflict prevention policy and a humanitarian response mechanism in conflict-affected regions.

SUMMARY:Marketplace Power: What's at the core of your personal brand?
DESCRIPTION:Time to simplify the path to your personal brand. Learn the keys to revealing YOUR brand superpowers and\, better yet\, make them work for you. In an ultra-connected globalized world\, we see and hear others and often compare ourselves to what others do “right”\, instead of looking at ourselves and finding our own talent superpowers. \nDr. Martin Luther King and other icons like Warren Buffet and Richard Branson accomplish great things because of the confidence derived from focusing on what they do well. Imagine if Dr. King had said\, “I will devote time and energy to being more cautious\, analytical\, and risk avoidance to be more well-rounded.” Dr. King left a legacy by living boldly in his strengths and our country was forever changed. \nAre you missing your calling\, and fullest potential\, by not knowing and investing in your talents? \nCan you connect the dots between your talents and their potential impact? Can you articulate your personal brand? Most people can’t\, but it’s become essential in the marketplace and workplace. \nJoin the FACC if you’re ready for a game changer! You’ll witness Monique Lung’s top talents in action as she demonstrates how understanding and applying her talents changed her game. She will share portraits of executives who are building their personal brand. To be successful today\, executives and entrepreneurs must be able to clearly communicate their personal brand. \nIf you’d like to learn:\n• how to articulate your differentiator and stand out from the pack\n• how to leverage the power of a personal brand\n• how your brand does the heavy lifting for you (and highlights your natural strengths)\nthen this presentation is for you!

SUMMARY:Webinar: Am I Sourcing From the Right Country?
DESCRIPTION:World Trade Center Atlanta and Transportation Intermediaries Association (TIA) present: Am I Sourcing From the Right Country? \nIf you are working in the international trade arena as an importer\, customs broker\, or providing transportation to inland destinations\, you will benefit from this webinar by being able to identify some of the PTA (Preferential Trade Agreements) and FTA (Free Trade Agreements) countries.\nWe will review some of the timelines for expiring agreements to help avoid being caught paying duties if you or your customer are ordering just at the expiration date. The GSP periodically expires and must be renewed by Congress to remain in effect. The 2015 GSP reauthorization (H.R. 1295) will expire on December 31\, 2017. All GSP renewals that have taken effect after a lapse have included a retroactive clause providing refunds to importers of eligible goods imported during the lapse period. Are you aware of the GSP changes in the Presidential Proclamation 9625 of June 29\, 2017? Even though we may have trade agreements\, subsequent duties such as ADD (Anti-dumping Duty) and/or CVD (Countervailing Duty) may be imposed and create headaches for you and your customers. \nJoin the World Trade Center for this exciting webinar to determine – Am I Sourcing From the Right Country? \nMODERATOR\nWill Sehestedt\, Director of Government Affairs\, Transportation Intermediaries Association (TIA)\nPANELISTS\nDonna Mullins\, VP Education\, WTC Atlanta (Mullins International Solutions)\nDavid M. SUMMARY:A Note on Opera: Verdi's "Otello"
DESCRIPTION:Join for the latest ‘A Note on Opera’ lecture as we look at Verdi’s “Otello.” \nVerdi’s lifelong adoration of Shakespeare culminated in his 1887 masterpiece “Otello\,” arguably the greatest of all Italian operas. With the deft touch of librettist Arrigo Boïto\, Verdi streamlines Shakespeare’s “Othello” to focus laser-like on the evolving tragedy of Otello being manipulated into killing his wife Desdemona. \nIn “Otello\,” Verdi finally achieves a seamless musical language\, without drawing any attention to its Italianate conventions\, while incorporating the Austro-German musical tradition to give “Otello’s” score a symphonic sweep. In essence\, the orchestra itself becomes a character. \nTo be taught in English by David Kerr\, no pre-existing musical knowledge required.\nAdmission: $20.00 members\, $25.00 non-members

SUMMARY:How Do You Solve a Problem Like North Korea?
DESCRIPTION:The Two Koreas. \nNorth Korea is all over the headlines since it launched an intercontinental ballistic missile on July 28. “Fire and fury\,” President Trump warned North Korea on August 8. Within three days\, $1.5 trillion drained out of stock markets worldwide. Next door\, South Korea thrives economically despite constant threats and provocations from the North. South Korea has recorded impressive economic growth year after year – and this while impeaching one president and electing another. Experts agree North Korea has developed both ICBM technology and the ability to place nuclear weapons on those missiles. Add erratic leader Kim Jong-un\, and the world is in a new territory where pitfalls and dangers abound. \nJoin the discussion on the two Koreas. Experts on North and South Korea will lead us through the challenges and opportunities the world must deal with starting today.
