SUMMARY:Czech 'Schmitke' Film Screening and Screenwriter Talk
DESCRIPTION:Join the Honorary Consul General of the Czech Republic in Atlanta\, The Czech School of Atlanta Honoring Karel Velan and the Goethe-Zentrum Atlanta for the screening of the award winning Czech Film “Schmitke.” \nThe evening will include a presentation from the movie’s screen writer\, Tomáš Končinský\, an extremely successful script writer of Czech Television programs and children books author. \nThe film is based on a short story by Končinský titled\, “Julius Schmitke slipped through death’s fingers like an awkward seal.” It is a story set somewhere between comedy and mystery\, somewhere in the fog of the Ore Mountains\, full of the atmosphere of this mysterious stretch of land\, its history and its people. But first of all it’s the story of the inner world of an aging\, clumsy man who is unable to participate in the world around him. He shows us a feeling that we all know in today’s ultra-fast virtual world. It’s a journey into the mind of an unfortunate man\, which makes us feel what we don’t allow ourselves to feel that much anymore. \nA wine and cheese reception will be served. \nThe film\, set in the Czech Republic\, will be screened in German with English subtitles. Length: 94 minutes. \n Admission: Complimentary

SUMMARY:Global Atlanta 'Export Stories' Report Release and Reception
DESCRIPTION:Let’s face it: Exporting isn’t always easy. Cracking new markets requires guts\, time\, money and a whole new level of attention to detail and commitment to cultural adaptation. \nBut it’s not impossible\, and the proof is right here in our backyard. \nThrough its third annual Export Stories reception and special report [see the 2014 special report]\, Global Atlanta is set to share the firsthand accounts of 20+ exporters from around the metro area who have shaken off fear and embraced the unknown\, overcoming challenges to become more resilient and profitable companies. \nWe’re partnering with the steering committee of the Global Cities Initiative in Atlanta\, which is helping lead the Atlanta Metro Export Challenge\, backed by JPMorgan Chase\, UPS\, and Partnership Gwinnett. \nEarlier this year\, the challenge named 28 local semifinalists who took home $5\,000 in grants toward boosting their overseas sales. They’ll soon be competing in a pitch competition in an effort to win $20\,000 more. \nAt this event\, you’ll be able to network with some of the semifinalists\, hear a few practice pitches and engage in a panel discussion where a few intrepid business leaders will share how they have overcome issues like currency conversion\, cultural snafus\, trade policy uncertainty and more. \nPanel: \n\nJohn Hanger\, CEO\, Car360\nDarlene Huggins\, VP of Business Development\, Dustex\nJoe’ Lloyd\, VP of Marketing\, NanoLumens\nPitch:\nSean Casey\, Owner\, Rotorcorp\nJim Hall\, CEO\, Triatek\nLisa Winton\, Winton Machine \nJennifer Tipping\, MMJ Labs\n\nWine\, beer and light bites will be served. The event is free for exporters and Global Atlanta subscribers\, even those who sign up when registering; $10 for everyone else.

SUMMARY:The Sixth Annual Conference of the Atlanta International Arbitration Society (AtlAS)
DESCRIPTION:The past year has seen the rise of populist nationalism\, skepticism of multilateral trade agreements\, and calls to tighten\, in some ways\, the flow of people across borders – perhaps most visibly in the United States and Europe\, but with varying manifestations in other parts of the world\, as well.  For some\, these developments represent a much-needed course correction to protect their nation’s security and address macroeconomic trends that have hurt working people.  Others see them as harbingers of the demise of the post-World War II global order or worse.  These developments are sparking lively political debate\, but they also raise non-partisan\, practical questions for international business dispute resolution. \n
