SUMMARY:China's Challenge and America's Response
DESCRIPTION:Fei-Ling Wang will discuss his new book The China Race: Global Competition for Alternative World Orders\, which analyzes the global competition for power and leadership between the US-led West and the People’s Republic of China. Examining the nature\, aims\, means\, accomplishments\, pitfalls and failures of Beijing’s foreign policy and the state of and developments in Sinology and the West’s China policy\, this book focuses on the existential PRC-USA rivalry and propose a holistic strategic framework\, with three ranked objectives and a list of suggested shortcuts\, for the West and the world\, including the Chinese people\, to manage\, benefit from\, and prevail in the China Race. \n\n\n\nPeter Harrell will discuss his recent article in Foreign Affairs in which he argues that rather than pursuing economic policies intended to change China\, the United States should accept that the Xi regime will not change. Instead\, it should actively manage the economic relationship with China in ways that can advance specific U.S. interests and respond to evolving geopolitical demands. In doing so\, the U.S. should develop a more effective economic strategy toward its close allies and other partners.  If it does so\, he contends that the United States is well positioned to maintain its edge in leading economic domains. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFei-Ling Wang\, Professor\, Nunn School of International Affairs and author of The China Race: Global Competition for Alternative World Orders (SUNY Press\, 2024).\nPhilip Fei-Ling Wang\, Ph.D. (University of Pennsylvania)\, professor at Sam Nunn School of International Affairs\, Georgia Institute of Technology (fw@gatech.edu). SUMMARY:Grimm Night - Grim Tales: An Eerie Happy Hour of Unhappy Endings
DESCRIPTION:On February 9 through March 2\, PushPush Arts Theater and Goethe-Zentrum Atlanta present the premiere of “Grimm Night – Grim Tales”\, an eerie happy hour of unhappy endings and grotesquerie\, a tragic comedy inspired by 18 unknown tales of the world-famous Brothers Grimm\, the writers behind such popular fairy tales like Cinderella\, Snow White\, and many others. But beware: the tales in this production are not for little children. Surprisingly modern and utterly from “once upon a time”\, this production leads the audience through a whirlwind of 18 interconnected short tales\, originating from the dark forests and sparkling castles of old Germany\, exploring the human experience from birth through death\, with an unflinching bluntness that would make even Rumpelstiltskin stand still in disbelief and laughter. \n\n\n\nSelected\, dramatized\, and directed by Goethe Executive Director Oliver Gorf. \n\n\n\nIn English. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegister
