SUMMARY:Webinar: Racial Inclusion in the Films and Audiovisual Arts Industry
DESCRIPTION:The film and audiovisual arts industry plays a pivotal role in shaping public perceptions\, influencing cultural narratives\, and fostering social change. In Colombia\, Afro-Colombians have long faced underrepresentation and misrepresentation in media\, particularly in film and television. Despite being one of the largest ethnic groups in the country\, Afro-Colombians are often excluded from the narratives that shape national identity and culture. In response Pilas Colombia (PilasCol) has emerged as a leading force in promoting racial inclusion and diversity within Colombia’s audiovisual industry. \n\n\n\nThrough a wide array of projects and initiatives\, PilasCol has made significant strides in creating a more inclusive audiovisual industry while championing the preservation of Black cultural heritage and the advancement of Afro-Colombian cultural industries. \n\n\n\nThis panel discussion will explore PILASCOL’s work in promoting racial inclusion in Colombia’s film and audiovisual arts industry. The discussion will feature the CEO and Executive Producer of Pilas Colombia\, Edwin Salcedo\, who will share insights into the organization’s mission\, achievements\, and vision for a more equitable and diverse media landscape. \n\n\n\nThe Executive Producer will also present the organization’s latest film project\, the mini-series Fronteras\, which aims to highlight Colombia’s ethnic and cultural diversity while enhancing the country’s image in the world. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegister

SUMMARY:Ambassador Briefing: Pakistan -- Reaching for Reform
DESCRIPTION:Join Global Atlanta and Miller & Martin for a timely discussion with Rizwan Saeed Sheikh\, Pakistan’s ambassador to the United States since August 2024\, on investment opportunities as the country of 235 million people reaches for reform. \n\n\n\nDuring his first official visit to Atlanta to meet community leaders and students\, Mr. Saeed will outline the government’s efforts to boost financial inclusion and drive growth through its Uraan Pakistan plan\, which aims to seed 6 percent growth by 2028\, led by export-oriented sectors and in collaboration with the World Bank and other multilateral institutions\, as outlined by the finance minister at the recent World Economic Forum. \n\n\n\nEven amid stalled talks between the government and opposition\, Mr. Saeed will showcase how sectors like energy\, infrastructure\, technology\, mining\, and agriculture offer substantial growth potential\, and how foreign investors from some of the world’s most dynamic economies are seizing opportunities in this key South Asian market. \n\n\n\nViewing Atlanta as a hub for higher education\, he will also explore deeper university collaborations and opportunities for the mutual recognition of degrees and credentials to drive further exchange. A fintech hub\, Atlanta could also play a role in the country’s nascent digitization efforts\, bringing individuals and small businesses into the formal economy and reducing the unbanked population. \n\n\n\nHeld over lunch\, the conversation will also address how Pakistan will work with the new U.S. administration\, manage regional tensions and where it sits in a world increasingly marked by U.S.-China rivalry. \n\n\n\nSee a summary of our last Pakistan briefing: Georgia Now on Pakistan’s Map\, Ambassador Says \n\n\n\nFeatured Speaker\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAmbassador Rizwan Saeed Sheikh\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\nSponsored & Hosted by: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSponsored by:

SUMMARY:Fifth Nunn School Symposium: The Dollar's Challenged Role in the World
DESCRIPTION:Since the end of the Second World War the US dollar has played a central role in the global economy. During the 21st century the US government has extensively leveraged the associated importance of the US financial system to secure foreign policy objectives. That activity and concerns about US fiscal responsibility have recently prompted other governments and non-state actors to seek alternatives to the dollar and to the US financial system. This half-day symposium will explore how the US has used the dollar and the US financial system as a source of power and assess the challenges to the continued centrality of the dollar and the US financial system and consider what that means for US power. \n\n\n\n12:00 Lunch and welcome\n\n\n\n\nAlasdair Young\, Professor and Neal Family Chair\, Sam Nunn School ofInternational Affairs\, Georgia Institute of Technology\n\n\n\n\n12:30 Leveraging the dollar for foreign policy ends\n\n\n\n\nBrian Grant\, Managing Director\, Global Head of Financial Crimes ComplianceOperations and Global Head of Sanctions Compliance at MUFG\n\n\n\nPeter Harrell\, Nonresident Fellow at the Carnegie Endowment for InternationalPeace. SUMMARY:2025 Dunwoody Virtual Great Decisions Lecture Series – U.S. Changing Leadership of the World Economy
DESCRIPTION:The annual 2025 Dunwoody Great Decisions Foreign Policy Lecture Series will take place via Zoom every Thursday evening from February 6 – March 27\, 2025 at 7:00 PM. There is a fee to register for the virtual lecture series\, and registration is required to receive the event link. \n\n\n\nTopic: U.S. Changing Leadership of the World Economy \n\n\n\nUnder President Biden\, the U.S. has advanced new ideas about trade\, technology\, industrial policy\, competition with China\, and the organization of the world economy. For most of the postwar era\, the U.S. has tied its global leadership to cooperative agendas aimed at creating a more open-world trading system\, but that has apparently come to an end. What are America’s options and opportunities as a leader of the world economy? How will America’s “foreign policy for the middle class” and strategic competition with China impact its leadership role? How can the postwar rules and institutions of the world economy be made safe for economic nationalism and great power competition? \n\n\n\nSpeaker: Dr. Stephen Collins\, Professor of Political Science and International Affairs\, Kennesaw State University (KSU) \n\n\n\nPlease note\, topics and speakers are subject to change dates. \n\n\n\nGreat Decisions\, presented by the Foreign Policy Association (FPA)\, highlights the most thought-provoking foreign policy challenges facing Americans each year. GCIV is the statewide coordinator for the nonpartisan program.
