SUMMARY:Film & Jazz: "Carlo\, Keep Swingin'"
DESCRIPTION:Join the Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Atlanta and the Goethe-Zentrum Atlanta for a screening of the film “Carlo\, Keep Swingin” by Elizabeth Ok along with a discussion and Q&A session with the German filmmaker.\nThe film will be accompanied by live jazz music along with a wine and cheese reception. \nFilm length: 81 minutes\nTo be screened in German with English subtitles.\nAbout the film:\nThe movie by Elizabeth Ok is a colorful piece of artwork about an extraordinary person\, a genius with a fine sense of humor and a lot of enthusiasm. It also shows a complicated and tempting love story of an unconventional couple like Carlo and Anita\, in Germany of the fifties. Last but not least\, it is a hymn to freedom and jazz music. The Jazzkeller helped to build true relationships across countries after the painful experience of Second World War. The Movie shows how music and enthusiasm can overcome borders and bring people together. It seems that the motto of jazz musicians: keep swingin which helped in difficult times is still applicable today.

SUMMARY:Singing Africa: Ibeyi in concert at the Variety Playhouse
DESCRIPTION:Franco-Cuban twins Naomi and Lisa-Kaindé Diaz of hit duo Ibeyi bring their soulful voices and magnetic stage presence to Atlanta for a night of electrifying music. The 22-year-old sisters — who sing in English and Yoruba\, the language of their Nigerian ancestors who arrived in Cuba as slaves — burst onto the music scene in 2015 with their self-titled debut album\, which blends hip-hop\, jazz and soul with electronic beats and traditional instruments. The pair draws influence from both their Parisian upbringing and the Afro-Cuban musical tradition of their father\, famed Cuban percussionist Angá Díaz. Ibeyi means “twins” in Yoruba.
