SUMMARY:International Business Webinar Series "Revisiting Export Strategy: Research and Practice"
DESCRIPTION:Exporting is arguably the most consequential international business (IB) and international\nmarketing (IM) activity undertaken by firms. It is also the backbone of IB initiatives\, with\nMNCs and other large international firms being among the largest exporters. Recently\, the\nanti-globalization theme has regained momentum\, especially following the COVID-19\npandemic\, the war in Ukraine\, and subsequent supply chain bottlenecks. These disruptions\nhave demonstrated the importance of exporting and importing not only for finished goods but\nalso commodities. Paradoxically\, as compared to the past\, far less research on exporting topics\nis published in academic journals lately. Research activity on exporting as an alternative to\nmore involved forms of IB/IM engagement does not appear to have gained much momentum\namong scholars. \nThe goal in this webinar is to present exporting’s role in IB/IM research and practice. They will\nalso discuss how exporting strategy can respond to fundamental shifts in globalization\n(e.g.\, digitalization\, anti-globalization\, strong dollar)\, and disruptive changes in global climate\n(e.g.\, politics\, economic\, the pandemic). The webinar will highlight country and company\nillustrations and will provide various lenses through which scholars and practitioners might\napproach exporting. The target audiences include academics\, researchers\, and practitioners \nKey Takeaways:\n– The ubiquity and importance of exporting within IM/IB\n– Responding to fundamental global shifts and disruptive forces through exporting\n– Issues and topics for future export research consideration (areas\, conceptualizations\, and\nmethods)

SUMMARY:1982: Atlanta movie opening with Director\, Oualid Mouaness
DESCRIPTION:Alif Institute is proud to collaborate with Director Oualid Mouaness to bring his new newest film\, 1982\, to the Plaza Theater Plaza Atlanta! Stay after for a Q&A and meet the director! \nA Cinematic Wonder… 1982 keeps you on the edge of your seat\, heart in your throat from beginning to end.” In his debut feature\, Oualid Mouaness delivers an ode to innocence in which he revisits one of the most cataclysmic moments in Lebanon’s history through the lens of a child and his vibrant imagination. It demonstrates the complexities of love and war and the resilience of the human spirit. 1982 opens at The Plaza Theater on Friday\, October 21 at 8 PM followed by Q&A with the director. \nQuestions? Please email info@alifinstitute.org. \n  \nFilm Synopsis: \n“1982” is a life-affirming coming-of-age tale set at an idyllic school in Lebanon’s mountains on the eve of a looming invasion. It unfolds over a single day and follows an 11-year-old boy’s relentless quest to profess his love to a girl in his class. As the invasion encroaches on Beirut\, it upends the day\, threatening the entire country and its cohesion. Within the microcosm of the school\, the film draws a harrowing portrait of a society torn between its desire for love and peace and the ideological schisms unraveling its seams. \n“1982” won the Cannes Film Festival’s youth sidebar’s PRIX CANNES ECRANS JUNIORS 2021 (Cannes Cinéphiles)\, the Toronto International Film Festival’s NETPAC AWARD\, a FIPRESCI International Critics Prize at El-Gouna\, and the UNICEF 2021 Prize among numerous others. SUMMARY:Freedom Fighter Statue Unveiling & Multimedia Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:Join the Hungarian American Coalition\, Honorary Consulate General of Atlanta and the local Hungarian American community for the unveiling of the 1956 Hungarian Freedom Fighter statue and the accompanying Multimedia Exhibit at Millennium Gate Museum! They have worked together to create a new statue to honor the heroes of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution. It is the first of its kind in Georgia.\n  \nBackground: \n\nIn 1956\, students and workers banded together in an epic David vs Goliath struggle to bring the seemingly invincible Soviet Union to its knees when no one else dared. Following 13 days of hard-won freedom from October 23 – November 4\, the Revolution was crushed by Soviet forces and thousands were imprisoned or killed. More than 200\,000 ’56-ers made the difficult decision to flee the country with 35\,000 making their home in the U.S.\, including the great state of Georgia. This statue honors their legacy. \nBut these Hungarian heroes were not alone in their fight against Soviet tyranny and communism. So\, this statue will also serve as a symbol for freedom loving patriots everywhere and as a stark reminder of what it takes to overcome the evils of communism. \nTo those who stayed. To those who left. To those who were lost. We remember. \n\n  \nEvent details:  \n\nThe October 23rd event will take place from 1:00-4:00 PM\, with the unveiling scheduled from ~1:00-2:00 PM. \nPlease direct any questions to hac@hacusa.org. \nFree parking is available on side streets all around the Museum and Park. For wheelchairs or easy access\, please contact us for special instructions. \n\n\n\n  \n  \n\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Czech - US Relations during Rising Tensions and Conflict in the East
DESCRIPTION:Join ACIR as Miloslav Stašek\, Czech ambassador to the US\, explores the topic “Czech – US Relations During Rising Tensions and Conflict in the East”. \n2018 marked the 100th anniversary of the founding of Czechoslovakia\, and in 1993\, the United States established diplomatic relations with the Czech Republic after Czechoslovakia was peacefully re-established into two neighboring states. The Czech Republic is a member of the European Union and NATO\, and both the US and the Czech governments have maintained steadfast cooperation in pursuing human rights\, economic\, and security goals that promote core values for both nations. \nThe US and the Czech Republic have bi-lateral trade and investment treaties\, and while the US is the major exporter to the Czech Republic outside the European Union\, the Czech Republic is mutually engaged in exports of wines\, sporting goods\, and even startups in Silicon Valley. \nUS-Czech relations grow while Czech-Russian relations have dramatically fallen with the Russian invasion of Ukraine\, reminiscent of Russian tanks in then Czechoslovakia in 1968. The Czech government has since absorbed Ukrainian refugees and sent military equipment to Ukraine while looking to secure its nation-state\, mindful that only neighboring Slovakia separates it from western Ukraine. \n
