DESCRIPTION:Join Alliance Française Atlanta and Georgia State University for a screening of the documentary “Claude McKay: Wandering the World”\, directed by Matthieu Verdeil. \n\n\n\nAt the crossroads of Black literary consciousness and political struggle\, Claude McKay helped lay the groundwork for major literary movements\, including Negritude. A politically committed poet with a bohemian spirit\, he moved through New York’s literary circles\, Parisian salons\, Soviet intellectual life\, and Black diasporic communities in places like Marseille\, forging connections with figures such as W.E.B. Du Bois and Leon Trotsky. Shaped by these global encounters\, McKay developed a radical philosophy that anticipated its time. Du Bois and Leon Trotsky. Shaped by these global encounters\, McKay developed a radical philosophy that anticipated its time. Following the two-block stroll parade\, there will be prizes awarded at the Pavilion for Best Dressed Pet\, Leprechaun Lookalike (for adults)\, and the King and Queen (children) of St. Patrick’s Day Shenanigans. \n\n\n\nThe World’s Shortest Endurance Run sponsored by the Rotary Club of Rockdale takes place following the Parade\, starting at the Conyers Welcome Center at 6:00 p.m. Be among the brave and bold to run the rigorous 0.10-mile course from the Welcome Center to The Pointe (don’t worry–there’s a water stop along the way)! DESCRIPTION:Directed by Mira Nair\, Mississippi Masala is a film about postcolonial displacement\, nostalgia\, and the urgent need for cross-racial empathy.  Expelled from their home\, Uganda\, by President Idi Amin\, an Indian family is forced to rebuild their life in Mississippi\, USA. The parents struggle with their displacement and the yearning for home in Uganda.
