SUMMARY:International Business Webinar -- Seeds of Growth: How AGCO Built a Global Tractor Powerhouse from Atlanta
DESCRIPTION:When Martin Richenhagen joined AGCO Corp. in 2004\, it was already a $3 billion publicly traded firm. But sixteen years later\, when he retired from his posts as chairman and CEO\, it was a Fortune 500 powerhouse combining some of the biggest brands in the business of agricultural equipment. With $10 billion in sales\, AGCO doubled in size during his tenure to more than 20\,000 employees around the globe. \nThis extraordinary growth story\, rooted in metro Atlanta\, is linked with Mr. Richenhagen’s vision to expand aggressively via acquisitions while peering constantly around the corner to see future trends in food and farming. \nRather than being absorbed in the halls of academia\, Mr. Richenhagen’s business acumen developed from natural curiosity and hustle\, starting during his early years as a religion scholar and French teacher and developing alongside a  love of horses that propelled his ascent to the highest levels of competitive dressage. \nJoin the Georgia State University CIBER in the latest of its ongoing International Business Webinar series for a discussion with Mr. Richenhagen moderated by Global Atlanta Managing Editor Trevor Williams. \nAbout Martin Richenhagen: \nMartin Richenhagen was the first and for many years the only German CEO of a U.S.. Fortune 500 company. Born and raised in Cologne\, he studied theology\, philosophy and worked as a French teacher before he changed fields and started a successful international business career that led him to 16 years at the helm at AGCO ending in 2020. \nKey Takeaways: \n\nHow multinational corporations should navigate a strategy of growth through acquisitions versus organic sales\nLessons on hiring\, training and deploying executives in various emerging and developed markets and across functions\, from management to marketing to manufacturing\nHow leaders can use embrace cultural differences as an advantage rather than a hindrance\n\nContact Paula Huntley with any registration questions at gsuciber@gsu.edu.

Network with members from these organizations as well as leaders of the Korea – U.S. economic relationship communities. The goal of the forum will be to help facilitate meeting of professionals and corporations interested in the cause to developing and understanding the E-mobility trends for the future. Please RSVP to attend. \n \nTopics include: \n\nForum to promote cooperation between the United States and the Republic of Korea to successfully have joint economic developments.\nKey industry trends\, Executive panels\, E-mobility leaders\, Professional leaders and educators talk about invaluable insights on how to development and prepare for the next generation of E-mobility technological advancement challenges and opportunities.\n\n  \nSPEAKER BIOS: \nBreakthroughs in Battery Technology\, Associate Professor Lee Seung-woo\, Georgia Tech \nDr. Lee joined the Woodruff School of Mechanical Engineering at Georgia Institute of Technology as an assistant professor in January 2013. Dr. Lee received his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering at MIT\, focusing on designing high-energy and high-power density nanostructured electrodes for electrochemical energy storage\, and synthesizing catalysts for electrochemical energy conversion of small molecules such as methanol oxidation and O2 reduction. He conducted his postdoctoral research in designing electrodes for lithium rechargeable batteries and catalysts for solar energy storage in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and the Department of Chemistry at MIT. \nDr. Lee’s research focuses on understanding electrochemical energy conversion and storage mechanisms as well as on designing electrochemical systems that can link renewable energy sources with various end-user applications. The development of these technologies is a critical factor in supporting new transportation technologies\, load-leveling for solar and stationary power applications\, and fast-evolving portable electronic devices. To respond to these challenges\, we will explore the following interconnected research areas. \n  \n——————————————————————- \nThe Future of the EV Industry\, Professor Woongchul Choi\, Kookmin University \n  \nProf. Woongchul Choi serves as a Professor of the Department of Automotive Engineering at Kookmin University in Korea. He started his professional career as founder of FloCoTec\, Inc. a high-tech venture company in Columbus\, Ohio specializing in the development of stereoscopic image-based flow field measurement systems. He and his company enjoyed considerable success over a span of 20+ years\, carrying out numerous research projects with Ford and other major automotive OEMs. \nIn 2010\, Prof. Choi returned to Korea\, whereupon his services became highly sought after not only by the government\, but also by world-class private sector companies. Prof. Choi works closely with Samsung Electronics\, Samsung Electro-Mechanics\, Hyundai Motors\, and SK Group. SUMMARY:Challenges of Satellite Security in the Age of Rising Tensions
DESCRIPTION:ACIR is honored to host Dr. Mariel Borowitz for an in-person event entitled “Challenges of Satellite Security in the Age of Rising Tensions.” \nThe United States heavily depends on satellites during peacetime for communications\, navigation\, and other essential functions. During wars\, satellites play a crucial role in such functions as command and control\, reconnaissance\, intelligence gathering and targeting. However\, satellites are becoming increasingly vulnerable to anti-satellite actions by potential adversaries. \nJoin ACIR as Dr. Mariel Borowitz\, who has worked with the National Security Agency on such issues\, explores the challenges the United States confronts in protecting American satellites from the actions of potential adversaries\, imperiling our civilian grid system\, and neutralizing our military communications and targeting satellites. \n  \nSpeaker bio:  \nDr. Borowitz completed a detail as a policy analyst for the Science Mission Directorate at NASA Headquarters in Washington\, DC from 2016 to 2018. In 2022\, she testified to the U.S. House of Representatives Subcommittee on Space and Aeronautics in a hearing titled\, “Space Situational Awareness: Guiding the Transition to a Civil Capability.” \nHer research deals with international space policy issues\, focusing particularly on global developments related to remote sensing satellites and challenges to space security and sustainability. Her book\, “Open Space: The Global Effort for Open Access to Environmental Satellite Data\,” published by MIT Press\, examines trends in the development of data sharing policies governing Earth observing satellites\, as well as interactions with the growing commercial remote sensing sector. Her work has been published in Science\, Strategic Studies Quarterly\, Space Policy\, Astropolitics\, and New Space. Her research has been supported by grants from the National Science Foundation and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. \nDr. Borowitz earned a PhD in Public Policy at the University of Maryland and a Master’s degree in International Science and Technology Policy from George Washington University. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
