Editor’s note: Invest Barbados is a longtime partner of Global Atlanta, a collaboration that now includes sponsorship of our new Caribbean Channel, which is focused on highlighting Atlanta’s trade and investment links with this important region.

We caught up with Investment Executive David Rice to learn why the Atlanta market is so important for Barbados, particularly in the run-up to the launch of a new Delta flight to the island in November.

Global Atlanta: Tell us about Invest Barbados and its role in Atlanta’s global landscape.

David Rice: Invest Barbados is the national investment promotion agency responsible for attracting and facilitating foreign investment to the country.

Our role in Atlanta’s global landscape is to create meaningful connections with businesses and investors exploring opportunities in Barbados. Focusing on industries such as financial services, life sciences, film and global education, we position Barbados as a strategic location for U.S. companies seeking to expand into the Caribbean or globally. Through partnerships and engagements in Atlanta, we aim to elevate Barbados’ presence as a hub for international business and innovation.

Why is it important for you to foster more discussion around the region that you are sponsoring?

As Barbados seeks to deepen its economic ties with the southeastern U.S., particularly in the vibrant city of Atlanta, fostering discussion around the Caribbean region is critical.

Barbados, a prime location for investment, offers unique advantages, including a welcoming investment climate, stable political and social environment, a highly educated workforce, excellent infrastructure, and a growing reputation as a leading hub for global businesses.

What are your upcoming plans for growth in that region, or what are some upcoming initiatives? What specialized services/expertise do you offer potential clients looking to do business in your region? What sets you apart in your engagement there?

We are focusing on key initiatives in 2024-2026 to expand Barbados’ visibility in Atlanta and the broader southeastern U.S. region. These include targeted industry-specific events in financial services, film and life sciences, where we will showcase Barbados’ strengths and explore collaborative opportunities.

We offer comprehensive services, from assisting investors with navigating the regulatory environment to connecting them with local partners and resources. What sets us apart is our personalized approach—each investor is treated as a strategic partner, and we take the time to understand their unique needs and tailor our support accordingly.

Focusing on industries such as financial services, life sciences, film and global education, we position Barbados as a strategic location for U.S. companies seeking to expand into the Caribbean or globally.

Why did you choose to sponsor a Global Atlanta Channel?

Global Atlanta is a trusted platform that connects business leaders, government officials and diplomats in the region. By sponsoring a channel through Global Atlanta, we can directly engage with Atlanta’s influential decision-makers and build a network that facilitates discussions on how Barbados can serve as a gateway to international markets. This partnership aligns with our objectives of promoting Barbados as a top investment destination and fostering deeper economic ties between the U.S. and Barbados.

How can Global Atlanta and its readers best aid Invest Barbados’ outreach?

Global Atlanta can best support our outreach by providing strategic introductions to business leaders and investors who have an interest in expanding into the Caribbean or global markets.
