A French firm making electrical components and systems is setting up a new factory in Gwinnett County, investing $10 million with plans to hire 300.

Socomec, based in Benfeld in France’s eastern Alsace region, will move into an existing building in unincorporated Suwanee, becoming the latest French company to establish a presence in the county home to the French-American Chamber of Commerce and many other investors from the country.

While the company has had a U.S. entity since 2009, the new Georgia facility is to be a “major milestone in Socomec’s growth in North America,” Michele Putignano, president and CEO of Socomec North America, said in a news release.

The company makes energy storage systems, power meters, fuses and other components across 30 subsidiaries employing 4,400 people globally and taking in 924 million euros (about $1.07 billion) in annual revenue.

Georgia Department of Economic Development Commissioner Pat Wilson said the “manufacturing ecosystem around electrical equipment and infrastructure represent an incredibly important strategic industry for our country.”

Hiring at the facility, located at 2935 Shawnee Industrial Way, is set to begin in early 2026.

The Partnership Gwinnett also welcomed the news, citing a collaborative effort with Georgia Power, Georgia Quick Start, the Metro Atlanta Chamber and the state.

“Socomec’s investment underscores Gwinnett’s position as a globally connected hub where talent and industry intersect,” said Kevin Carmichael, senior vice president of Partnership Gwinnett, also in a release. “Our community continues to attract companies that value collaboration, innovation, and a workforce ready for what’s next.”

Founded on an Alsace farm, Socomec celebrated its centenary in 2022.
