The Fulton County Commission issued a proclamation last week naming June 10 “U.S.-Saudi Arabian Business Council Appreciation Day” in honor of a Saudi delegation attending Supercomm ’99 held at the Georgia World Congress Center.
Medley Al-Medlej, executive director of the Washington, D.C.-based U.S.-Saudi Arabian Business Council, accepted the proclamation on behalf of the delegation during a ceremony at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Buckhead.
“Fulton County wants to build relations with international groups,” Commissioner Robert Fulton, who drafted the proclamation, told GlobalFax. “We have growing high tech businesses along the Georgia 400 corridor and Saudi Arabia has many high tech companies that we want to have relationships with.”
The mission sought to match the 24 participating Saudi companies with local firms, which could provide services as qualified agents, distributors, representatives, licensees, end users and joint venture partners in various segments of the communications industry.
Among the Saudi participants was Awalnet—Al-Faisaliah Internet Services & Technology, a subsidiary of the leading conglomerate, Faisaliah Group. Internet access was not opened to the public in Saudi Arabia until earlier this year. Awalnet is a Saudi a leader in providing Internet marketing services.
