GE Energy has signed service agreements totaling more than $1 billion with Algeria’s state-owned power company. 

Algiers, Algeria-based Sonelgaz enlisted Atlanta-based GE Energy to improve the efficiency and performance of 51 gas turbines in 13 power plants across the North African country.

The agreements include an 18-year contractual service agreement for the Koudiet Eddraouch power plant in El-Tarf province, 700 kilometers east of Algiers.

GE Energy also agreed to a six-year maintenance contract for 48 gas turbines in 12 other plants and committed to supplying services to increase machinery output.
