Georgia is set to refresh its trade and investment representative in Israel, one of the 12 global markets where the state maintains a consistent presence.
A request for a proposals published in January carried a Feb. 9 deadline, with the award set to be announced in late April.
The $96,000 contract designates half of the amount toward trade promotion, helping Georgia exporters find markets in the country of nearly 10 million, and the other half to foreign-investment recruitment.
Israel has been a fertile ground for both in the past, especially as tech firms from the so-called “Startup Nation” have used Atlanta as a launch pad for U.S. expansion and exits.
Sima Amir had run the office outside Tel Aviv since 2017. It’s unclear whether her company is in the running for the new contract.
The timing is notable, given the tenuous October ceasefire in Gaza and plans by Delta Air Lines to restart a flight from Atlanta to Tel Aviv in April.
An Atlanta tech delegation traveled to Israel in December, reviving ties with the sister-city of Ra’anana, and while there is no longer an Israel chamber in Atlanta, a new Georgia-Israel Business Alliance has emerged. Drive TLV, an Israeli mobility incubator, is touching down in Atlanta next week to meet with its local partners.
The new rep in Israel is to be named after the state reveals the winners of an RFP for its refreshed Chile, Peru and Argentina contract. Neighbors International recently won a $95,0000 tender for the Georgia office in Mexico and Colombia, giving the state new representation in Mexico City and Bogota. CIDEP continues to represent Georgia in Montreal after winning a renewed contract.
