The Georgia Ports Authority‘s board of directors has re-elected Alec Poitevint as its chairman.

Mr. Poitevint is president and chairman of Southeastern Minerals Inc. in Bainbridge.

He also chairs the American Feed Industry Insurance Co. and has played a role in various agricultural organizations and trade missions. He has served on the ports authority’s board since July 2007.

The deepening of the Savannah River in preparation for the larger ships that will begin passing through the Panama Canal in 2014 is the authority’s top priority as it seeks to improve Georgia‘s already competitive infrastructure, Mr. Poitevint said in a news release.

Robert Jepson Jr. of Savannah was appointed vice chairman, while Roy Fickling of Macon was named secretary and treasurer of the authority.
