Joseph Huntemann looks on as Commissioner Pat Wilson speaks at the Georgia 50th anniversary celebration at Tokyo's Peninsula Hotel.

The Georgia Department of Economic Development is seeking a new managing director of its Tokyo office.

The department in 2023 celebrated 50 years of continuous representation in Japan with a reception at Tokyo’s Peninsula Hotel, where Joseph Huntemann helped preside over the ceremonies as managing director.

Mr. Huntemann is departing the position about two years after taking up the role, precipitating a search for his replacement. He had taken over from Yumiko Nakazono, who in 2020 retired after more than 30 years with the department, including more than 25 leading the office in Tokyo.

As the lead point of contact for the state’s investment recruitment efforts in Japan, the new managing director will be expected to exhibit fluency in written and spoken Japanese and English, with relevant knowledge of export promotion, foreign direct investment and lead-generation efforts.

A bachelor’s degree in international business, international affairs or another relevant field and five years of managerial experience, or nine years (with five managing professional staff) are required.

The job pays between $110,000 and $130,000 per year based on experience. Interested parties should submit a resume and cover letter in English to Director of International Investment Coryn Marsik at CMarsik@georgia.org.
