The board of directors meeting of the German American Chamber of Commerce of the Southern United States Inc. will be held Oct. 13-15 at the offices of the Hanover Chamber of Industry and Commerce in Hanover, Germany.

“We have close ties with the chamber in Hanover,” Thomas Beck, president and CEO of GACC South, told GlobalAtlanta when Wilfried Prewo, the Hanover chamber’s chief executive, was in Atlanta last month.

Dr. Prewo met with members of the German chamber here, local officials and toured the Georgia Research Center, which is located downtown and has an interactive database and multimedia technology highlighting available industrial and office buildings and industrial and business parks throughout the state.

“It’s fantastic,” Dr. Prewo said about the Georgia Power facility. “We have nothing like it.”

The Hanover chamber is one of Germany’s largest chambers of commerce and its members are from the central industrial region of Lower Saxony, including the headquarters of Volkswagen AG and Preussag AG, a diversified group with operations in energy, logistics, tourism and other economic activities.

Hanover also is the headquarters of the tourism group TUI AG and the site for large, international trade fairs including Cebit, the annual show for information and telecommunications technology.

Besides members of the Hanover chamber, GACC South directors will meet with Joachim Werren, the state secretary of Lower Saxony, and tour Viscom AG, a high-tech company.
