Readers of Executive Travel magazine have named Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport the nation’s “best domestic airport” for the publication’s 2012 Leading Edge Awards.
The busiest airport in the world beat out other major hubs based on votes tallied by the publication. The Leading Edge Awards were developed to honor travel providers that offer the most innovative, high-quality products to business travelers, according to the magazine.
“We’re thrilled to have been selected by business travelers as the Best Domestic Airport,” said Louis Miller, Hartsfield-Jackson’s general manager. “These customers spend much of their time traveling, and their praise reflects our dedication and commitment to being one or the world’s most efficient airports.”
In addition to nonstop service to 160 U.S. destinations, flights from the Atlanta airport serve to nearly 70 international destinations in more than 45 countries. The airport recently opened its new Maynard H. Jackson International Terminal, or Concourse F, adding 12 gates and combining with Concourse E to create a 40-gate international complex.
Domestic travel has increased by less than a quarter of a percent since 2011 at Hartsfield-Jackon, while international travel has increased during the same period by 1.16 percent, according to the airport’s May traffic report.
Atlanta-based Delta Air Lines Inc. received a bronze award by the magazine for best domestic airline overall, losing to second-place Alaska Airlines and gold-winner Virgin America Inc.
