The Atlanta Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (AHCC) named Jose Ignacio Gonzalez, president of Atlanta-based logistics consulting firm PanAmerican Logistics LLC, Hispanic Businessman of the Year at the 12th Annual AHCC Awards Gala last weekend for his work in the Latino community.

Mr. Ignacio Gonzalez, a native Colombian, has promoted Atlanta in Central and South America and helped to bring about the new open-skies air cargo agreement with Colombia, according to the AHCC.

Also recognized was Ralph Perales, a native Peruvian and managing partner at Perales, Fernandez & Rosner law firm, who was named Member of the Year, and Blanca Gilmore who received the Hispanic Businesswoman of the Year Award.

Ms. Gilmore is the owner of Blancas Hispanic Food, a grocery store, Blancas Travel, a travel agency and Novedades Rincon Latino, a clothing store in Atlanta.

Q-B Engineering Inc., a general civil engineering design and surveying firm owned by Gilbert Quiñones, received the Business of the Year Award for a company with less than 10 employees.

Family owned, high-end cabinet manufacturer, Berkeley Woodworking Inc., which was originally founded in Ecuador by Carmen and Richard Webb, was named the Business of the Year with more than 10 employees.

Delta Air Lines was recognized as Corporation of the Year with chairman and chief executive officer Leo Mullins accepting the award.

Other individuals who received special recognition awards were Mario Diaz, deputy general manager at Hartsfield International Airport, and Carlos Mata, co-founder and current president of the Atlanta chapter of The National Society of Hispanic MBAs and a mortgage banker at HomeBanc Mortgage Corp.

Annette Rodriguez, director of the Small Business Resource Center and Jacqueline Thomas-Rosier, regional census director for the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund in Atlanta, were also recognized. Dayton Hedges, formerly on the board of directors of the AHCC and president of Hedges Construction Co., was recognized posthumously with the Chairman’s Special Recognition Award.
