HItachi Automotive Systems Americas Inc. is to invest $80 million in an expansion that will create 250 jobs at its plant in Monroe

The Japanese affiliate will add a new facility with 290,000 square feet of space, more than doubling its 230,000 square feet of capacity at is two existing buildings. 

The workforce will also nearly double; the plant currently employs 300 full-time and 75 part-time workers producing electric power train systems, engine management systems, drive control systems and other parts. 

Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal, whose office announced the expansion in a news release, visited parent company officials during a visit to Japan in 2012.
