Home Depot Inc. has named a new senior vice president and chief information officer who joins the company Sept. 8.

Matt Carey, formerly senior vice president and chief technology officer at eBay Inc., will be responsible for Home Depot’s information technology and communications.

Prior to eBay, Mr. Carey spent more than 20 years at Wal-Mart Stores Inc., working his way up from trainee to senior vice president and technology officer.  While there, he managed the implementation of the company’s wireless infrastructure and Web sites wal-mart.com and samsclub.com.

Mr. Carey succeeds Bob DeRodes, who announced in April that he would be leaving the company.  Mr. DeRodes stayed on until the company found his replacement and will assist in Mr. Carey’s transition.
